I ordered this throttle assembly not for a Toro mower, but for my Long Life Tiller from 1987 that was made by MTD. Unfortunately, ancient machinery like this is difficult or impossible to find parts for. My tiller was no exception when I found the throttle cable was completely seized up on it and was NLA from MTD or even as NOS on eBay. Sensing that I would be hard pressed to find something that matches what I need to make it work, I just started searching to see if I could find something that would work and still fit pretty close to what it had originally. I saw this and thought it looked pretty close, so I pulled the trigger on it!Well, the most daunting part of it to me was whether it would fit in the hole that is in the console of my tiller. It isn’t a perfect fit, but it appears like it will do just fine. There is a little play in the overall length of the handle housing, but not enough that the part doesn’t fit fairly securely in the console. That was a major win for me right there! But - and this is a pretty big but - the end that attaches to the engine doesn’t quite fit and I haven’t found a way to make it fit yet. But I’ll find a way to make it fit - that is what I do! The bend in the end appears to be just a bit too wide to fit inside the throttle bracket on the engine. It is either that, or the cable doesn’t want to flex enough to let me insert it into the throttle bracket. I’ll get it figured out, though! Problem solving is what I do best!Overall, the fit and finish of the cable is as good as any OEM product that I have ever encountered. I love that I have a square knob on the console now over the t-bar tube that it originally had and I like that a lot! The finish on the knob also suggests that this is a bit higher quality than any of the other ones I was looking at. Operation is smooth as silk and fluid throughout the operation range.I am really happy I found this for my tiller. I am pretty sure it will work exactly how I wanted it to, even if it needs some slight modification. For what I paid for it, I wouldn’t be disappointed if I can’t make it work. I can just add it to my parts inventory for future use! I am sure that if you decide to get this for your Toro or whatever application you intend for it, you’ll be just as happy with it as I am. It is a really quality piece that I find is really easy to use and won’t fail anytime soon. Good thing - I hope to get another 27 years out of it as it is!
