I got this baren to use when I do gel printing. Gel printing requires rubbing a top layer of paper over other layers of paper and paint. I used to use my hands but the baren takes the place of my hands in this craft. I can't use it in every instance but I can use it in most instances. It's really very helpful. Muscles that don't get used very often do get tired during a gel printing session (that usual lasts all day long) so every bit that can be assisted is appreciated. This tool helps relieve hand strain.It's very well made and well worth the price. The wood is very smooth and doesn't catch on my paper when I'm working. That is a key feature.I probably won't use the felt discs that come with the baren. They really aren't needed for my particular style of printing. They do look like they would fit perfectly however. It would be nice to know if they would make a difference in my gel printing but they are attached to the tool with adhesive as opposed to something like a hook and loop style attachment, so I'll probably never know. I don't want to ruin the beautiful finish on the face of the baren by sticking adhesive on it. I guess one can't have it both ways!Recommended.

This barren is nicely constructed and solid. The felt pads that come with it are nice and give a little cushion when applying pressure. It is smaller than I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing. Works really well for block printing.
