I found these awkward to use, to heavy, bulky and thick making it harder to get between the hoof and the shoe to get a good grip. They can get the job done in a pinch but not something I would want to use on a regular basis.

These pulloffs are very well made and quite heavy. The jaws are fairly thick so it may be challenging to get them under a tightly fitted shoe branch if need be but they have plenty of oomph to grip nails and get those out once the shoe's loose enough to get ahold of them. Definitely something every horse owner should have on hand for shoe emergencies.

I ordered the Equine Care Farrier Tools 14 Inch Horseshoe Puller because I didn't have one!This is an essential tool to have on hand if you have a horse or are camping with folks that have horses. I'd pull shoes if there was intense mud or even for a health emergency!I'd even go so far as to say, keep it in your preparedness pack as well for emergencies with extreme weather!When you ride a shod horse, (that's a horse that has shoes on) there's always a chance that your horse could throw a shoe. When this happens, you have to get off of your horse and walk it if you don't have this tool in your pack to pull the shoes off! Never ride a horse that has thrown a shoe.If your horse throws a shoe while on the trail and you are 10 miles from the barn or trailer, you might be walking in the dark in your boots all the way back if you don't have a pair of these on hand!This item is well made, came in a nice red bag and does the job it's made to do! I hope to order some more essential tools for keeping my horse's feet happy and healthy!THANK YOU AMAZON VINE!

This shoe puller and trimmer is very sturdy, but not so heavy that we can't use it. We tried doing our own farrier work about twenty years ago and determined that farriers are worth every penny we pay them. It is hard work and involves more skill than we ever imagined.So, this is strictly a shoe puller for us to use when one of our horses partially dislodges a shoe. We've already used it once on our older quarter horse who has soft hooves. As expensive as it is to have them put on, we hate to pull them. A time or two a year, Mitch will sink his foot in mud and a shoe will twist, but not completely come off. This time, Mitch was really limping and we noticed an abscess starting to form.This puller came to the rescue. It is so much easier to pull the shoe off with these than with pliers. We packed his hoof and will continue to treat until the abscess blows out. Recommended.
