I was using a double fixture and opted to get these separate single fixtures instead. When one fixture goes bad in a double dome the whole thing is useless.I didn’t have any problems separating these two domes. Assembly is required, but it’s super simple and straightforward. You do not have to hang these by the cords because they come with small hanging attachments that you have to put onto the dome. This is an excellent value for what you get. Both of my bulbs that easily in here and then I have them plugged into a smart power strip so that they automatically turn on and off as I need them to.

I have over 30 years of experience in keeping reptiles, and these are hands down THE BEST dome lights I've ever used. The updated modern silhouette and thoughtful design are the perfect balance between form and function. Finally, a reptile fixture that I'm happy to have on display!I ordered these to replace some older units on my bearded dragon's enclosure. I expected the classic black dome fixture, but these are far above and beyond any I've used before. They're incredibly well made with thicker metal, a ceramic socket and a perfectly placed toggle switch. And the shape! These are so compact, yet deep enough to accommodate larger mercury vapor bulbs.I'm over the moon to finally have lamps that aren't an eyesore. They blend seamlessly with my mid century modern decor, and they look far more expensive than they are. Couldn't be more pleased! Moving forward, I will be purchasing these exclusively to replace older fixtures as they wear out.

These lamp covers are well built and seem to be of good quality. The manufacturer shipped them wrapped in plastic and nested inside each other, making it very difficult to separate the two lamp covers, as they were very well much together. After struggling without success, my daughter finally had to hold on to the lamp covers with her knees and yank them apart with both hands.

These are really nice reptile lamps. I really like the glossy finish, it just looks nicer than our previous lamps which had matte finish...I don't think that my daughter prefers one over the other, but as an adult I think these are more attractive. They seem easier to dust with the glossy surface as well. The design of these is thoughtful in that the top portion that goes between the cord and bulb is hollow metal with perforations to allow the heat to escape. This is important and I will explain why below. Our lamps that I mentioned above came with our vivarium, we have used them continuously since 2019. The set came with two and we used both of them at various times, but we have had a 75W bulb on continuously. We really only switched from one to the other because the bulb went out, we needed to change it, but the lamp was too hot to remove the bulb. The issue with those old lamps which lead me to say that the design of these new lamps is so important is that there were two states of being with our old lamps...they were too hot, or once cooled the bulb was seized in place. The ability for heat to escape from the top of the lamp is thoughtful and makes these worth ordering in my opinion. I had to take our old lamp to the neighbor to get help removing bulbs in the past. One might think that heat escaping from the top lessens the amount of heat projected downward toward the habitat; however, there is no difference within the vivarium according to our thermometer. The heat is still projected downward as it should be. The holes simply provide an escape for excess heat build-up within the bulb socket. I am hoping this will also help our bulbs last longer and not degrade between the glass and metal screw portion (which was another issue with our old lamps.)The only negative was that when these two laps arrived they were stuck together. They were nested together, and the sides are so straight that to get them apart we needed two pairs of hands to pull them apart from one another. It was frustrating as I tried alone, but as soon as I had my daughter pull on one while I pulled on the other they made a suction sound and came apart!

Ok, I have to admit I didn’t get this for a reptile, I got this for friend’s cat. The poor kitty lives in an apartment that doesn’t get a lot of sunlight and is indoors all the time. This is the cat’s sun lamp. I outfitted it with a 75 watt heating light bulb, and purchased hanging clips for this, as well as a tall adjustable stand to hang the lamp over the kitty’s favorite napping spot. I adjusted the distance using my hand to feel how warm the spotlight got over time and kitty is now very happy to her own bit of sunshine. The lamps are made of thin metal and it does get pretty warm but since I’m only using 75 watt bulbs it’s not too bad. My only gripe was how difficult it was to pull the lamps apart since they came nested together. It took me and my friend a couple of tries to separate them. Since this came as a 2 pack, my friend can now save one as a spare or set up a second basking spot for her cat. Happy cat, happy friend.
