I like the spring preload and the price is hard to beat but the tools are very sloppy. The build quality is not great as the rivets and joints are all loose and jaws out of alignment. Also, it is claimed at 2 tons capacity but I wouldn’t trust these grippers with 4,000 pounds. I might trust them with 500 pounds.

If you’re planning on constructing a barbed or barbless wire fence, do not do it without a clamp you will end up with a garbage fence and your animals will be running free. This clamp works amazing and includes a little safety clasp to make sure the wire doesn’t work its way out, very happy with the purchase shipping was quick price was extremely fair. Thanks.

I've used these grippers with 3/16" steel cable and come-alongs to pull trees that I'm felling in the direction they need to fall. Most of them have worked well, with the exception of one that looked like it wore out, and one that was shipped defective. They can be moved to any position on the cable, and pulled from there. If needed, you can set up a "relay" with a pair of grippers and a pair of come-alongs, in which each come-along pulls only a few feet, but the relay can pull as far as you want.An alternate approach (which I haven't tried) is a rope winch and a climbing rope. No need for a "relay" with that setup.Unfortunately, the teeth on the jaws can wear out, or might even be shipped defective. I've attached a photo of my gripper that failed on 10/10/2023. If you look closely, you can see the line in the center of the stationary jaw where it looks like the teeth wore out. Luckily, I still had two grippers in working order, and those were enough for the day this one failed. On that day, I was lucky to be felling a tree that was leaning only moderately the wrong way; for trees that are leaning more heavily the wrong way, all three of my grippers have been needed.Unfortunately, the replacement unit that was sent to replace that failed unit was defective. I've attached three photos of that unit: 1) the whole unit, 2) the well-manufactured moving jaw, with sharp teeth, and 3) the defective stationary jaw, with defective teeth.

I used this as a fence stretcher on a small job. It is a good strong tool. It is well suited for commercial use.
