The Function of Power Steering Pressure Line Hose
A pressure line hose connects a power steering pump to the cylinders in an electronic power steering system. The pump routes pressurized power steering fluid into the steering rack, where it is used to control the steering wheel turn rate.
Hydraulic power steering systems make cars easier to maneuver, particularly in tight spaces, such as parking lots. Power steering uses a motor to force fluid via a high-pressure hose to the steering box and this pressurized fluid helps turn the steering mechanism.
Power Steering Pressure Line Hose Problems
Power steering pressure line hoses and return hoses can wear down over time and become corroded or develop leaks. Most high-pressure lines are metal, whereas low-pressure lines are made of rubber. Power steering hoses are exposed to high temperatures when the engine is running. The composition of power steering fluid and the pressure generated by a power steering pump can also degrade hoses over time.
In addition to risking potential damage to the power steering system, a failed pressure line hose can eliminate steering assist and make any car or truck much more difficult to steer. Power steering fluid is also flammable and may ignite upon making contact with hot surfaces.

Make sure you look at the fitting real good before you install it on the oil cooler. I had to use a pick to get everything apart and then put it together properly. The O ring and spacers were in the fitting SIDEWAYS. The plastic locking ring had to be trimmed of excess material from improper molding in order for it to work.Very poor QC.

Just as others mentioned this hose would not lock into place no matter what I tried including tapping it with a hammer and a straight edge. To get it to work I had to remove the plastic releasing ring and the pry out the 4 prong locking tab from the old oem hose and swap them over to the new hose. After swapping the locking clip new hose locked into place with minimal effort pressing it on with 1 hand.The 4 prong metal locking clip that comes with the hose doesnt look right. Save yourself the grief and either buy another hose or swap the ring and clip from your old hose.Installed and had to trim the hose down for a e46 as it was too long and had 1 too many bends. In the end replaced my cracked leaking hose and after the lock swap no leaks at the connection.
