Every body man I've ever worked with has at least one of these. This will be my third. First one grew legs, second one held up pretty well for years until the latest trainee parked an F550 on it for a weekend. Still worked ok for the most part but it was deformed just enough to leave a slight dig in the center. Might as well replace it.

They had ONE of these in the auto body shop where I took classes. Everyone wanted it, so it was hard to get and keep. I bought my own and I am so glad I did. This is outstanding for detail work and gently curved surfaces: anywhere you don't want a hard block. For blocking, get something else, but I use this for working filler in those awkward curved places. I love it.

This is the best sanding block you will ever use. Ergonomic and also very well designed to hold the paper. Make sure you put your name on it indelibly if you are going to use it in a shop -- they tend to walk away if left on the table!

This is another expensive 3M product that is worth every penny. Feels really good in your hand and will probably last forever. You need to buy the stick on sandpaper roles as well.

The Stikit soft hand block is great! Very comfortable in the hand even for long periods of sanding. It allows the paper to conform to gently curving surfaces. Stikit paper may be expensive, but you don't have any waste when using Stikit sanding blocks. I used the Stikit system in building a wood boat, spending many, many hours sanding by hand. I can't imagine a better system for hand sanding!
