Works on Linux, Windows, and Mac. I was getting close to 4000 MB/s with an SN850x in CrystalDiskMark, so this is certainly USB4 speeds. It looks great, it works great, and it's simple. I would have liked to see more than USB 2.0, but the days of fast USB-A are limited. Being that the Mac Mini already has fast C ports on the front, adding the two A ports with this was nice. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is that the NVMe door is supposed to act as a heatsink, but even using the thicker of the 2 thermal pads that were included, it wasn't all that close to making contact with my NVMe drive. I ended up using my own 3mm heatpad to get contact, but that's a fair amount of thermal gap. There's also no passive cooling on the bottom if you have a double sided NVMe drive. All in all, I didn't notice much/any thermal throttling with my use cases. I mostly use my secondary drive for backups or long term storage vs active us.

I have the lowest-capacity storage in my Mac mini M4, as I didn't want to pay for the internal upgrade. Initially, I was using an external Samsung USB SSD for my storage, but I replaced that with another dock. That dock, however, was limited to USB 3.2 gen2 speeds (i.e. 10Gbps). I was fine with that at the time, as I assumed that was the best I could do for under $100.However, this dock has changed that perspective. As a USB4 device, this the disk speed isn't limited by the dock, but by my drive itself. Which means I am getting the full potential of my drive. The same exact NVMe drive (an old 1TB WD Blue drive) that was giving me 8Gbps on the previous dock is now giving me 27.5 Gbps!I would prefer if some of the USB-A ports were at least USB 3.0, if not 3.2gen1 for downstream devices, but that's not a big issue, as the Mac mini itself has plenty of USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, so realistically, the only things I'll be using the dock's USB-A ports for are likely a mouse, keyboard, and MIDI controller.Setting this up was dirt-simple: open it, put in the drive, close it and plug it in. The short Thunderbolt/USB4 cable is a perfect length. It's bus-powered, so there is no additional power cord needed. There's even a pair of little lights telling you whether or not you're connected at the full 40Gbps.This is the best dock I've found at this price point.

Firstly the price, for an externally connected NVMe drive and mini hub you would expect to pay this sort of cash but the legacy connections put me off a bit. I think the £109.99 is a little on the pricey side without an ethernet connection)One of the reasons people get these hubs to to increase the port could and not lose something they have, I would have liked to have seen a couple of extra USB C ports on the front of the unit for newer devices that might be permanent that you dont want to plug into the Mini M4, also a RJ45 connection would be very useful indeed, but you just have a couple of USB A ports on the front with some LED"s and a single USB A port on the back, which is ideal for a wired mouse or keyboard etc.Its dead easy to install using a single Thunderbolt 4/5 cable(a small cable is included) plug it into the hub and Mini and thats it.The best thing for me is the inclusion of the NVMe slot in the unit, simply remove the cover, insert the NVMe and locate it, then replace the cover and you are good to go, you will get lightening speeds. The unit is very well made, and offers fairly reasonable connectivity. One key feature is that your mini is raised off the table/desk and you can easily get to the power button in the corner!!A nice well put together hub,

Very solid aluminum body makes this dock feel expensive. Works as intended once you install a SSD into it. Plug and play works flawlessly with a Mac. I like that it has USB ports on the front as well that's easy for plugging in my mouse and keyboard.

I’ve been using it with a crucial P3plus SSD, and I’m consistently getting read/write speeds around 3000MB/s. The 40Gbps bandwidth really delivers—super fast and stable. It’s made a huge difference in my workflow, especially when editing and exporting videos. Everything just feels smoother and faster. The full aluminum build gives it a premium, solid feel. It’s not just functional—it actually looks and feels great. The suspended design is a really nice touch too. One of my favorite little details is the LED indicators—white for low-speed and green for high-speed connections. When the Mac Mini is placed on top of the hub, the green LED lines up perfectly with the Mac’s own power indicator. It’s a small design detail, but it shows how thoughtfully this product was made.Overall, if you’re looking for a sleek, high-performance 40Gbps enclosure + dock for your Mac Mini, I highly recommend this one. It’s fast, well-built, and full of smart design choices.

i was hoping that since they released this new version it would address the issues from previoudly purchased versions that suffered the wifi loss issue. well.. pleased that i didn't have any loss of wifi speeds or issues with this new version but now the SSD slot doesn't recognize any SSD i am putting in it and they should work fine as they all had working in previous hubs. and the drives still all work today if i put them in an external usb enclosure instead of the slot on this hub. defeats the purpase... going to have to hastle with packing up and shipping back to get my refund. hope others have better luck with the SSD drives.

I picked up this 40Gbps expansion dock for my new Mac Mini M4 and installed my old P3 Plus M.2 SSD which I already used for 2 years and it still hit speeds at 2800MB/s. The dock is the full aluminum housing not only looks sleek next to the Mac Mini, but feels extremely sturdy and well-crafted. Definitely doesn’t feel like a budget product. If you’re looking for a fast, reliable, and affordable way to extend the storage capacity of your Mac Mini M4, this dock is one of the choice.
