I ordered a couple of these ebony violin fingerboards for some repair work I'm doing on some older French violins. The existing ones were some sort of lighter hardwood dyed to look like ebony, and badly pitted, so these are indeed an upgrade. The quality looks good, except for a 3mm hole drilled in the underneath portion of each. (These must have been location holes for when they were machined. Anyway, they didn't go too deep and I had to thin the undersides so no big deal.) They were surprisingly almost an exact fit width-wise, so didn't have to do a lot of trimming. (I'm glad the neck wasn't any wider or I'd have been in trouble.) After gluing them on, some light sanding, rubbing down with 0000 steel wool and polishing they look very nice, deep black with hardly any streaking. Surprised at the quality for the $$ here. Hard to beat for the money in my opinion.

Nice piece of clean, smooth ebony for a violin fingerboard. There are no defects in the wood. At $9.99 (the price at the time of this review) it's a great deal.

I got this fingerboard to use in building a gourd fiddle. It's ok for the price, but the one I got has a few cracks in it so I wouldn't try to use it on a good violin. It might be fine on a VSO. The wood is nice and smooth.
