This was my first time ever rebuilding a transmission. The book was great for rebuilding my 4r100.So thanks to google and forums i was able to assemble it with ease. Tools definitely make the job easier, but are not required except the transmission clutch spring compressor tool that one is the only one you have to get in order to change the rubber seals(can be purchased for 40$).MAKE SURE YOU HAVE a gap gauge and a inch pound torque wrench i purchased (1/2 In Drive Digital Torque AdapterPITTSBURGH PRO 30$) it is more accurate than a torque wrench and tells you how close you are followed by an audible beepMake sure you align the neutral safety switch correctly, and make sure the torque converter is fully seated in (if not the truck will crank and no start.) the torque converter should be 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch behind the bell housing of the transmission (prefill the torque converter with at least 2 quarts).Make sure you align the 3 bolts with the holes in the middle before completely assembling the overdrive section. you will need to put more than 230 pounds of force in order to compress the overdrive clutch spring in order to install the snap ring (don't ask me how I know lol!)No more BS slipping it shifts firm it shifts smooth as butter. The parts I used to upgrade the trans to be able to hold 550 hp and 1200 foot pounds of torque were (expensive yes but it was a fraction of the cost of buying a built transmission and the experience alone was one of a kind):Billet triple torque converter (DPC)John Woods automotive valve bodyTransGo Automatic Transmission Reprogramming Kits 4R100-HD2 (i did not use the springs for the accumulator valve body as i purchased one already modified differently with great reputation-John Woods automotive valve body)SUNCOAST CONVERTERS 4 DISC COAST CLUTCH DRUM FOR 1999-2003 FORD 4R100Suncoast Converters Billet Input Shaft (rated for 2000 foot pounds)Suncoast Converters Dual Load Center Support for E4OD/4R100 (4R36743)SUNCOAST CONVERTERS XTREME REBUILD KIT FOR 1999-2003 FORD 4R100 (complete kit!)This kit furnishes all the gaskets, seals, sealing rings, Alto Red Eagle frictions, Kolene steels, pressure plates and snap rings for severe service or high power applications. Increases clutch count in forward, direct, intermediate, coast*, and overdrive clutch packs.
