Excellent build quality with a solid 389.5g weight that feels great in hand. The 58.5mm size ensures even and consistent tamping for optimal espresso extraction. A must have for any serious home barista!

This attractive and well made tamper helps to get the right amount of force when tamping shots. Make sure the base is threaded well onto the overhanging lip section on the bottom of the tamer or the spring will not react properly. I'm happy with this purchase.

Nice looking Tamper, really liked the wood grain, quality and color but for some reason the expresso seemed to channel for me, I could have been doing something wrong, but I wonder if the concentric rings left in the tamp had something to do with it,

After trying out a few tamper for my Breville, I finally found THE tamper! This is a very nice tamper! The built feels very high quality. The machined parts are very nicely finished. It is said that this has a constant 30 lbs pressure and it seems to work perfectly everytime! The tamper is double spring loaded, one for the 30 lbs tamping and the other keeps a pressure on the black bottom part of the tamper to keep it level. The bottom is flat and not convex. This tamper fits a Breville 54mm portafilter perfectly! I use it with the original portafilter that came with my Breville Barista Express Impress (yes, I manually tamper it 😎). I'm very happy with this tamper, no need to buy a hundred dollar tamper. This is my end-game tamper!

This was exactly as advertised, you can fully unscrew it for cleaning and it looks awesome. I have not measured the spring load, but it does feel like it's 20+ pounds for sure. I'm using a Breville 54mm portafilter and this fits nicely. My favourite part is that the tamper sits on the edge of the portafilter which ensures a level tamp no matter the angle the portafilter is sitting. I highly recommend this product.

I don't know why this tamper isn't more popular on Amazon. I bought this (58.5mm version) along with the super duper popular Normcore to compare. I personally think this one looks a lot better, and the style fits well with my portafilter (even though it's not a Matow). No, these springs are not "constant force"... That's marketing gibberish that every seller is inaccurately using. The force of a constant diameter spring is linear to the amount of compression. When pushing the tamper on my scale, the larger spring starts to compress at around 27 lbs, so if you stop compressing your puck once you feel the spring move, you'll be right at around 30 lbs. If you keep pressing, the spring will put out 40+ lbs, so don't do that! The Normcore slides a little smoother, and it comes with 3 springs but otherwise functions the same. I ended up just keeping this one.

This tamper is a notable improvement over my last one, which was slightly too small for my Breville portafilter, and made it difficult to get a level tamp relative to the rim of the basket. The lip on this one solves that, and the slightly larger diameter of the plunger help avoid the tiny ring of untamped grounds around the perimeter of the basket. The wood handle is very high quality, and the force of the spring is appropriate to get a dense puck that does not impede the flow of water. The rippled surface of the plunger also provides a nice visual confirmation of an even tamp. Very pleased with this, and it has definitely replaced a couple others as my primary choice.

This is a great little hand tamper for coffee lovers, feels awesome in your hand with the smooth edges and machined mental and has a nice heft to it. The 30lbs spring feels accurate as it's not super easy to push downwards and the metal that touches the coffee surface is smooth and level. The description is little off as it mentions a wooden handle (?) but this tamper has an aluminum handle which I actually prefer.Make sure you are paying attention to the 53.3mm size, as this tamper is not compatible with one of my espresso machines (see photo) and is compatible with the other one I have, So please make sure you measure the size of the portafilter compatible with your specific machine before ordering.Hand tampers for espresso range between $20 and over $100 and at $59 this one does offer the spring loaded compression and a nice feel in the hand so its pretty awesome as long as it fits your machine!
