I have used several of this cutters so far and all work very well. It is amazing how quickly you can remove excess stock. I do recommend having the handle in your grinder , work piece in a vise, and caution while using. Just ease into it, gradually get a feel for each tool. They can get away from you if you are careless.

Only used two so far, the Speedcutter and one of the shapers. Make sure you adjust the guard on the grinder to cover the left side of the cutting surface to minimize kickback. The Speedcutter is no joke and takes no prisoners. Give it 110% attention or it will take an artery and/ or finger. Carved out a planter from an elm log…worked great!

This has provided me with a complete set of disks that so far, has provided for every need. They are all quite sturdy and very sharp and although they are small in size, they allow you to easily cover a very large area while providing you steady control. There are many creations I have yet to dream of that I am sure this carving set will assist me in completing.

These wood grinding discs rapidly remove material, so why would you use them? I have a couple uses for them other than carving, which I really don't do. One use is for stump removal. If I have a dead tree to cut, I try to as close to the ground as possible, then I use grinding discs to grind it to a little below ground level, then cover up the hole with earth. This prevents the need to remove the root system and dig everything up. Naturally, I'm not talking about a 3' diameter tree, but these would still work, it would just take some time. I also use these for roughing up boards for that distressed look. You need to go really slow and use care however, so experiment on scrap wood. You can also use them quick removal of paint or other finishes on wood before running it through the planer so that you don't ruin the blades. Sometimes using a sander takes too long and you consume too many sheets as they clog, but you won't run into that with these. Just brush them off if they get clogged with a brass brush. The sanding discs are useful for removing paint or rust from metal. I don't really use those on wood unless it's an uneven surface, because I have plenty of other more appropriate sanding tools. The cutting disc says it's for non-metal materials, so that really leaves wood and plastic. It's a little too aggressive for most cutting IMHO, but it's good for some demolition or quick, rough cutting. And finally there's a wrench, and with multiple grinders, it's good to have another. I like this set, it gives you a good assortment of discs and a wrench that you likely don't already have.
