It is a strong chain. I assumed one side would have a slide. Bad assumption on my part. It has a hex like key required to free one end. i was going to use it on a fence gate. still did by using a carbonator and second chain.

I made a mistake in ordering these- I was looking for something that did have a non-attached key to open. This requires a hex-style key to unscrew the screw to then unhook the latch. I don't want to penalize the product for my mistake, but I'm having a really hard time finding a situation that this would be useful. If you put it on a shed, any adult or older kid could probably open it without the hex key if they really wanted to. If you put it on a window, it'd be a safety/fire hazard. I wouldn't use it on a door because I don't want to have to use a hex key to unscrew a screw everytime.I deducted stars not because of my mistake, but because the design is inefficient without a way to attach the key if desired, and the need to unscrew a screw. The durability of the metal does seem good.If you need something to secure a door that isn't opened very often up high where small children can't reach, this would probably work. If you need to keep out thieves or gain access to something quickly, this probably isn't the best choice.

I would say the only thing I don't like is just how long the chain is. If you have a limited amount of space to attach this to the door edge or the wall, then it will allow the door to open wider than is secure. But, if you can attach it farther from the edges, you will be fine.I suppose you could clip a chain link or two off, but having to bend any one of them will weaken the link.It is made well and of some nice thick metal. I like that there is a key to keep it in place. That's added security. I needed to attach the key to the same location so it wouldn't get misplaced, but that is fine.It's a good chain lock.

This is perfect to add a layer of security for your windows or shed. Quality is good and it works for my application. The length of the chain is more than enough and can recommend it.

This is not the kind of lock you want for a door with regular use, let's be clear about that. This is not your standard apartment door chain that slides on and off. I have an external door that's rarely used and wanted a little extra piece of mind around that. This is a nice, sturdy chain that you screw in and use an additional key to screw into place. Would be very inconvenient to use on a daily basis, but is absolutely perfect for a door with minimal to no use. If that's what you're looking for, highly recommend. Nice product.

I hate to give a bad review, but I have a duty as a Vine Voice to to give you the honest truth about the products I review. First issue, it takes too long to disconnect the chain, you have to use the tool to unscrew the bolt and if there was a fire this could be a major hazard or worse. They should have had some sort of key or quick disconnect. Second, the bolt / machine screw is not connected to the chain. They could have easily added a speed nut and washer or something to keep the bolt captive on the chain, but I had to add these myself (see pictures of speed nut and washer and "captive bolt" after modification). If you plan to use this for a window or other purpose it might be fine. Install is easy with 4 screws; I used my own for a more secure connection to the door frame. The metal seems fine, and the nickel finish is shiny. 2 stars.

This is a nice quality and good size. It works well for securing a window in a child's room. I just wish it wasn't quite so difficult to unlock when needed.

This was perfect for my gate in my yard. It was easy to put on and holds the gate closed. It also looks very ice on the fencing.
