I used this to correct 5/8 x 20 threads on the end of an old generator armature. I couldn't get a split die to start on it. This doesn't really file metal away like a conventional file; it is hardened steal and more or less pushes the threads back in place. Took a while, but gradually the threads reappeared.

this is a good file. when i got it there where a few missing teeth. which was disappointing. but once i used it the missing teeth was not an issue. in fact it did the job extremely well. the few times i've used it, it has saved me a lot of head aches. for cleaning up threads on damaged bolts nothing beats this tool. nothing is better then finishing a job instead of run around town trying to find a replacement bolt.
