Durability and strength
AmerCare cutlery comes in a range of weights, including medium weight, medium-heavy weight, and heavy weight. Forks, knives, and spoons are available in each weight. The heavier the weight, the more durable the product.
Medium weight cutlery is best for soft foods that do not require much effort to pierce or cut through. Medium weight cutlery is often more economical and is an easy way to save on cost.
Medium-heavy weight cutlery offers a mid-grade strength. Medium-heavy weight items offer a compromise between cost savings and durability.
Heavy weight cutlery is the most durable, and is the best option for tougher foods. It can handle foods that medium weight cutlery does not. This is the best option for most meats or heavier foods.
Kit contents
AmerCare meal kits come wrapped in individual plastic packets. Wrapped kits offer an easy way to organize the items your customers need with each meal, and make it easy for staff to pack take-out orders quickly and efficiently. Plastic wrapped kits offer a more sanitary dining experience without fear of contamination.
AmerCare meal kits come in many different combinations, and are available in two to six piece kits. The items found in AmerCare meal kits can include: knives, forks, soup spoons, teaspoons, sporks, straws, napkins, and salt and pepper packets.
Material options
Disposble cutlery is often made from polypropylene or polystyrene. AmerCare offers both options for their cutlery. AmerCare polypropylene cuterly is available in medium, medium-heavy, and heavy weights. AmerCare polystyrene cutlery is available in medium-heavy and heavy weights. The material of each utensil or kit is indicated in the bullet points above.
Polypropylene and polystyrene are both thermoplastic polymers. They can both be dyed different colors, and are both often referred to as just "plastic" by consumers.
Polystyrene is more brittle than polypropylene. Tines on forks and the blades on knives are more pointed and sharper on polystyrene than on polypropylene cutlery.
Polypropylene is flexible without breaking. It has a softer, less breakable feel than polystyrene.
Color and style
Now that the more technical factors have been addressed, all that's left to choose is your preferred color! This comes down to personal preference.
Most AmerCare cutlery kit options are available in black and white. There is no difference between the colors choices in terms of weight, durability or strength; they differ in appearance only.
AmerCare cutlery comes in a few styles. The overall quality does not depend on factors such as the shape or the length of the handle.

Used these at a large pancake supper. Every packet has a fairly sturdy adult-size plastic knife, fork, spoon, good size napkin, and a salt-and-pepper packet. It was easy for people to pick up along with their plate, on their way to the serving line. Ideally we would have used steel silverware, and washed it, but that was not an option this time. This plastic stuff was more sanitary in that it did not expose an individual's tableware to handling by others, as would be the case in a standard set up of steel silverware when people reach into a tray to select their silverware. And it was all in one packet, so no fumbling and dropping multiple pieces along the way. It did create more trash. I would have like to buy something compostable, but the available packets did not have the salt-and-pepper. People at the pancake supper were happy with this product.
