High quality, excellent fit and finish. Reliable solder connection method.Note that this is not field installable: It requires precision cutting/stripping of wiring and fine soldering with a fine-tip soldering iron. Also, there are no instructions for assembly or cable preparation.

I used this to build a custom Raymarine SeaTalk2 to NEMA 2000 (N2K) cable. This was to interface my Raymarine C80 to the NEMA 2000 drop cable, and to interface to a Garmin SteadyCast as well as other devices on the N2K network. It's nice to be able to add the Garmin Steadycast to finally allow my old (2005) C80 to overlay RADAR returns onto my chart! It worked perfectly!Note that some reviews mentioned that it was difficult to solder the wires to the pins. I used a fine point soldering iron and had no problems at all, and even used some heat shrink tubing for extra insulation. If you don't have experience with soldering small parts, I suggest that you get someone with experience to help you to help avoid failures and frustration.

First, verify they sent you the right connector. I ordered male and received female. One star off.Second, this is a challenging connector to solder on, and I've been doing this kind of stuff my whole life. The center pin is the hardest because it's buried in the cluster. Do it first. They could have made it a little proud to to resolve this, but they didn't so the customer gets to be the fixer. You'll need just the right soldering iron tip and heat setting, a magnifier and steady hand. Inspect your work carefully, it's very easy for a little excess of solder to short to the next pin. One star off.If you manage to get past the above, it makes a fine compact connector and the alternatives, which are easier to install, can be very bulky.

For close to the same price you can get a GARMIN version that doesn’t require awkward delicate soldering. This is supposed to be for field repairs.. I’m going to solder ?? Sheesh. Delicate and finicky. Would not recommend at all. Save your money and buy the garmin version.

This is a well made unit, and good quality you would expect from Anchor. However it is not what I would consider field serviceable. Maybe workbench serviceable where you have plenty of light, small tools, and a good soldering iron to attach the very small gauge NMEA wiring to the connections which are half circle studs with no physical connection like screw terminals. This must be soldered to make connection. Search instead for Maretron (or Actisense) connector, it is physically much larger, but has screw terminals, and much easier to attach while upside down under the helm of your boat. Oh, and those come with directions as to which color wire to attach to which terminal, this one did not.

Good quality construction but very challenging to solder wires to the connector posts. Some manufacturers have screw-in post attachments which may be easier to use.
