These cameras are fantastic. I purchased them a couple of years ago and then let them sit in the box until I just recently installed them. They both were still fully charged and worked great. I get to see all the wildlife that visit while I'm sleeping. They were easy to physically install. Hardest part was moving the ladder around. They connected right up thru the Arlo app. I've had them up for several months and haven't had a problem with either one of them. I'm considering purchasing a door bell camera and moving the front deck camera to the back yard. The video is very distinct and sharp. The size of the cameras are small yet the spot light works great. I haven't had to charge either one of them yet.

I bought 2 packages of these Arlo Essentials Spotlight Cameras for a total of 4 cameras. I was not aware that I needed a hub to make them work. I wish the description were clearer. I would have liked to have everything here the day I began set up. Once I got everything set up both outside and on the app, it was ready to go. Set up was easy. I chose where to place my cameras outside and hung them accordingly. The app was easy to set up. Connecting the cameras and keeping them connected was a bit of a challenge at first, but I eventually got them all going. They have remained connected as well. I am very happy with the cameras and the system as a whole. They have remained working through many rain and wind storms. They are durable and strong. Although they are rechargeable, you rarely have to charge them. I have only had to recharge one in the past 3 months. You will have to pay a subscription. Over all I am very happy with this purchase and the brand itself.

The cameras just don't notify of motion the way that they say they do.There is anywhere from 10-15 second delay on the notifications about 70% of the time. Typically by the time you turn your camera on whatever was there is gone.Sometimes they don't notify you at all and testing them to assure proper functionality is near impossible. In fact testing them when you are away IS impossible without two people which just seems weird and should be an obvious red flag. Basically testing that the units work and troubleshooting why not is impossible. If I could give a rating lower than one star for the wasted time, misleading marketing and just general lack of caring, I would.Your Arlo cameras should have come with a free 30 day subscription, I suggest using this 30 day period to make sure that the cameras function for you as described. There are connectivity issues with the internet and the Arlo Essential cameras and there are also connectivity issues with the cameras and the cloud service Arlo uses that sends you push notifications. After extensive troubleshooting, including several appointments with my internet provider, and a lot of wasted time and energy we have established that the cameras are hooked up properly and have perfect internet connection, but even after all of that it was discovered that my "RSSI number" (Receive/Send/Signal/Indicator number) was low, despite having perfect internet connection and the cameras being set up properly. The only way to know your RSSI Number is to call Arlo and ask, after your 30 free trial or unless you order a subscription talking to someone in person will be very difficult. The cameras will test your connection and placement for you when you're setting them up and my test indicated perfect service and placement, but I was told that despite this and because the "RSSI number" was "bad" that "the cameras were struggling to communicate with the Arlo app on my phone via the cloud service used by Arlo, and thus my notifications were being delayed and even missed."It took around 13 days of nonstop monitoring and testing and around 10 different phone calls and an unbelievable amount of what felt like misdirection just to figure this out, at which point Arlo wanted to escalate the matter to the next department which was the engineer department but by this point I had ran out of both patience and time and decided to cancel my service. The bottom line is that even when the cameras are hooked up perfectly with perfect internet connection and placement, Arlo still will not assure that the cameras will function properly at a frequency higher than what I've currently experienced, and currently the notifications are only function properly around 20%-30% of the time for me.The notifications only work about 20%-30% of the time maximum and can not be relied on for security purposes about 70%-80% of the time. The cameras are great for watching birds in your yard, but 1000% are not appropriate for home security and should not be marketed for such purposes.Basically you have zero assurance from Arlo that you cameras will notify you while you are sleeping or away.

The camera only gives you notifications when motion is detected but you cannot access it except for the exact second you get the notification. A few seconds later and you cannot see a recording unless you buy a subscription!!!! DO NOT BUY

I’m really quite amazed. I purchased the Orbi 4g LTE modem-router for non-cable WiFi connection and matched the Orbi to 4 Arlo Essential security cameras. Should work, right? Never did anything like this before. Like so many of these electronic combinations that I’ve theorized about in the past, I assumed this wouldn’t work either. I talked to several advisors – Orbi technicians, Arlo community contributors. Everyone said it should work. And it did!!!! Amazing!!The Orbi LBR20 was a bit of a challenge. The Obi app was skittish … worked sometimes, sometimes got stuck. The password used to set-up my Orbi account (Netgear) was not the same as the password needed to activate the Orbi modem-router for Internet connection; the Orbi password is printed on the label at the bottom of the Orbi unit … Oh, that password.PureTalk (really AT&T) indicated that they had coverage for my barn’s Zip Code but could not guarantee the Sim card would work with Orbi LBR20 … not quite the confidence booster I needed. Ok … so brave as I am, I purchased the PureTalk Sim card and a 6 Gig data plan. After everything arrived, I first tried to connect the Orbi wireless modem-router to the Internet using the Orbi app as instructed. Nothing automatic here. After several tries, the Orbi app asked for the APN number of my Internet service provider. What’s an APN for goodness sake? Googled “PureTalk APN” and came up with “RESELLER”. I entered “RESELLER … then my PureTalk phone number as the only User ID I knew and then my PureTalk password. No contact and no Internet. Frustration!! The next day, I called PureTalk and asked for the APN number, user ID and password. After transferring through 4 different technical service associates, I received the information (APN = RESELLER, User ID = Not set up yet, Password = Not set up yet). So, I entered “RESELLER” and nothing else (no User ID and no Password). Success!! Internet access!!! Oh, so you don’t need a password in this case!! But … I was now connected to the Internet through a Orbi 4g LTE wireless modem-router … no cable. Once I got the password and APN right, Orbi activated as promised. The next step was to see if the Arlo Essential WiFi cameras would connect to the Orbi LBR20 and then connect to the Internet. The Arlo app was needed to activate the cameras. The Arlo app worked more reliably and consistently than the Orbi app. One by one, each of the Arlo Essential cameras activated. I could see my home office on each of the cameras. Amazing!!! What vanity looking at myself on all four cameras!!! Still, this was at home … and not 25 miles away … in the middle of nowhere. To be safe … I purchased two antennas to attach to the Orbi (not provided in the Orbi box), just in case the Orbi needed the extra help in capturing the wireless signal in the rural Midwest. The Orbi had no problem at home. Every WiFi device in the house wanted to connect to the Orbi … I had to resist. But would the same happen at the barn?I unplugged everything and transported the Orbi and the Arlo Essential cameras to the barn. Located the Orbi 14 feet above ground. Plugged it in. Immediate Internet connection!!! You’ve got to be kidding!!! Installed the Arlo cameras. Each of the cameras … one by one … immediately linked to the Orbi … just like at home. You’ve got to be kidding!! Now … 25 miles away with no cable … I have the views as shown below. There are still questions. The jury is still out. What will the battery life be for each of the cameras be? I fully charged the cameras yesterday; today they are at 92-94 %, though was experimenting with features a lot yesterday. The WiFi signal from the Orbi to the Arlo cameras appears strong. The barn is wood frame with steel siding. Two cameras show four bars and two show two. One of the cameras showing two bars showed four bars yesterday. I may need to reposition the cameras. So … everything is still new. We’ll see.

I am so impressed with this camera, the videos are so clear that if needed, Police could see people very clearly. There have been many breakins in my area and the distance that it picks up will help keep my neighbors safe too. Siren is loud so my neighbors can hear it and the spotlight gives enough light!
