Bicycle maintenance often comes to a halt for lack of the right “special tool,” and cassette removal and service is sometimes relegated to the bike shop because of it.Well, this set of cassette tools for probably the most common cassette systems out there is an easy buy, especially at this reasonable price.The lock ring remover and installer is especially convenient with its guide pin that fits into the hollow quick release axle and grabs the lock ring teeth firmly and accurately, making removal a breeze. It is especially handy as it has a ½” square drive hole at the rear making it simple to snap it onto a torque wrench to apply the correct specified torque upon re-installation.The “chain whip” tool is equally convenient and improved over the old ones I have as this one has a plastic handle. Since old freewheel assemblies are designed so that the outer 1 or 2 sprockets tighten onto the hub when pedaling, sometimes removing them for service requires exceptionally high force.Otherwise, this chain whip is a standard well proven design that is long enough to allow considerable leverage. Since this job typically requires 2 chain whips (one to hold and one to turn the sprockets) it’s great that this tool kit is so reasonably priced that buying two sets is still very affordable.This essential tool kit allows you to service your cassettes and freewheels on older mountain and road bikes with Shimano components and probably fits some others as well. It’s a bargain and could save you a trip to the shop as well as a repair bill. If in doubt, read the manual before use.
