I used my Bivy Stick to communicate in the backcountry where there is no cell phone coverage. Messages got out and back. Messaging is not as instantaneous as I am used to, there was a good 5 - 15 minute delay. That is because my messages must be queued and sent with a very low priority. But the messages got through.I purchased it to be able to have an alternative to the local infrastructure in the case of an emergency. My tests so far indicate that if the satellite system is functioning, I will be able to get messages in and out.
