The ball thing fell out of my existing door catch and was somehow lost. I was hoping to just screw the new ball piece into the existing plate, but these were a bit small in diameter than my existing ones. That said, the plate itself was the same size, so I only had to remove two screws and replace with existing plate and ball with the new ones. I reused the existing catch. All told an easy 5 minute repair. These are a bit harder to screw in/out than the old ones, which seems like a negative, but maybe that is what will prevent the new one from falling out like old one did.

These definitely aren't made to the same standard as the older ones I am replacing. They are fine at this price point, but you can clearly see the difference in size and quality vs the older ones (old one on the left in the photos). Also, the older ones had brass plungers that could more easily be adjusted vs the new ones.I really just wanted to replace my old ones since they weren't as smooth as they used to be. I ended up only using the plungers on this replacement set since the strike plates were much smaller and wouldn't fit well in the door jamb. Plungers are smoother, at least for now. Time will tell.
