It was bright while it lasted. All of 5 minutes before it caught fire on the underside. Can't find a good list or replacement parts

Purchased this for future camping. It’s the brightest light I could find. I love the design and carry case. I’ll find out next spring. Hopefully, I’ll see the bears before they get into the camp.

very bright, well made, modern propane lantern. Lights easily, high quality and not excessively noisy, dimmer works well. can be "screachy sounding" if turning dimmer switch at certain speed on lower level. this can be easily stopped by turning knob to slighter higher setting slowly. lamp puts out a tremendous amount of heat at higher settings. initial burn of socks can be tricky. follow install instructions to letter with minimal handling of sock before hand. slightest hole in ashed sock will eventually grow larger creating a hot jet of gas that may damage other parts of lamp. plan on going thru several sock sets till your technique improves. once you go thru the learning curve you will see how the sock works properly and that the ashed sock is more durable than expected. buy 3 or 4 sets of socks and have patience learning how to do it. this goes thru the small propane "camp" bottles relatively quick. consider the 20 pound bottles and at least a 5 foot hose for it. the propane bottle extension sticks to mount the lantern on are "dicey" at best. as expensive as the lamp is, I recommend it be hung it from a tripod or similar instead.

The first day of use was awesome and worked well! However, this was my primary lantern for a five day camping trip.Day 3, Night 2, one of the tube mantle blew out a hole causing the glass to heat and turn dark. Replaced the mantle after only 3 days/2 nights of use. All worked fine until the replacement blew out the next day (4 days/3 nights) in the same spot towards the bottom.Five (5) days later and four (4) nights, replaced another then instantly had to replace again. During this replacement we had some moderate winds blowing so that could have been the cause.Six (6) days/five (5) nights, same issue but I was out of mantles.I've been backpacking and car camping for over twenty (20) years and have several brands including coleman's single, dual mantle, propane and multi fuel as well as Primus lanterns that I use for backpacking. I've also have used the same mantle in other products for weeks, months and even the following year without a hole blowing out of them.I'm not sure what's causing the blow outs but the first couple of days, I had the lanterns turned up to a Low to Moderate brightness. At the low brightness the lantern will howl like an alarm or trumpet is going off. It's an annoying, loud sound where I had turned up the brightness and these mantles started to blow out towards the bottom.I am not sure if I have a lemon or if all of these units have the same problem. I've noticed most reviews on here were done after a single test or a short usage. If I'm writing this after my first night, two days of use I would have provided a 5 star since I didn't run into issues until after some moderate length of use.Perhaps there is a brightness were the unit wont howl and it wont blow out the mantle, then I'm left with a unit that is a fixed brightness.I have not found that goldilocks zone for this unit perhaps.I will simply say, this Tube design is horrible!PROS:Absolutely the brightness lantern by far.It comes with a nice carry soft case.Unit seems well made and I like the design.CONS:This unit seems to blow through mantles when the lanterns is used for a prolong time or at a moderate to bright level. When used at the low brightness setting, the unit will HOWL like it's a mini lighthouse warning incoming ships.High cost of replacement mantles compared to other units and even higher cost due to short life.Heavy in weight compared to other lanterns.Replacing the Tube Mantle in moderate winds seems to cause the mantle to blow holes instantly. My 2 cents:I think there is a design problem with this, I've found others on forums and youtube videos where this unit will Howl at low settings. The tube mantle may be hyper sensitive to wind or the built in regulator needs to be tuned down perhaps. While the lamp will provide the brightest light but the pain of replacing mantles so many times in just one full week of camping isn't worth the troubles IMO. I wish i can return this, but I purchased this a while back for my camping trip.

A good product with plenty of light and ease of operation. My only negative is its excessive fuel consumption. Also, parts are not available on the Coleman website.

Ack. Totally divided about this Coleman product. On the one hand it is a great idea and I'm glad to have it around for emergencies and to use outside. The lantern does make a very bright light. On some other hands though there are some looming problems.WHAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW-----------------------------------------------------THIS WAS ODD to put together and I think you will have to read the instructions in order to stay safe.--The mantles aren't like oil lamp mantles but are more like wide mesh/net sacks that you place around burners.--The glass cylinder doesn't sit in a balanced way until you put the other parts into place. This is not something you could ever use with 'light' camping.--You have to burn the mantles before using them. YES, you have to use matches to burn the wide mesh/net sacks. My husband was burning one when the other decided it didn't want to be left out and it caught on fire and burnt itself.NOTE: You absolutely must NOT USE the lantern if the mantles develop a hole. The mantle that decided to burn itself developed a hole. Against the Manufacturer's Instructions we used the lantern long enough to finish our testing. That done we now find that we cannot use the lantern until we purchase more mantles.--I assume we are burning the mantles to burn something off of them. I have no problems with that. However, if in burning the mantles you damage half of them so that you can't use the lantern... well, that's a potential problem.Another thing you should know is that the base of the lantern takes up over a foot of area if you want to place it on the ground or a picnic table. Finally, one thing to be careful and cognizant of is the screw mechanism. The propane tanks are, of course, steel. The partner piece of the lantern is not steel but aluminum. You must absolutely be careful of threading the two together. If you aren't careful the steel 'treads' will just destroy the aluminum ones. I know this because I am not a careful threader and this is why we needed a new lantern.SUMMARYThis Coleman Lantern puts out a good amount of light and I love that it uses the little propane canisters. We always have the canisters around and that should allow us to be ready for emergencies and sudden outdoor parties down by the pool. One thing that became obvious is that we're going to have to have plenty of mantles around as I believe Coleman when they say it's a safety concern to use the lantern after the mantles develop a hole. Since we don't even know how the one mantle developed a hole I have to guess that they are fragile.
