Instructions are very clear with lots of pictures. Great book to turn to if you are not sure how to read a pattern.Whoops, think I wrote a review saying I had not received this product. Review was for another product that I did not receive. The book is very helpful. Money well spent.

I am left handed so everybody had trouble teaching me crocheting skills or any for that matter. This book had much more patience with me than my former teachers. I didn't even mind it calling me a dummy! The instructions are clear and very easy for dummies to understand. If I can learn to crochet by using this book, I believe most anybody could, too. Now that I am crocheting I am losing weight because I don't eat while I am watching television. That is another positive aspect of this book. So if you are a little too chubby, you might want to purchase this book and learn to crochet.

I've previously tried to teach myself to crochet and was unsuccessful. I had a few people recommend this book to me, so I gave it a shot. The book goes over basic stitches with instructions and pictures. I read the Part 1 without completing any of the practice stitches. Then moved on to Chapter 6 and began the Sassy Scarf Project. The chapter details out each stitch in the project and you get plenty of practice with each stitch (240 stitches to be exact) before moving on to the next stitch. By completing the project while learning the stitches, it is very gratifying to have something to show for all of your hard work rather than a small patch of material that amounts to nothing. I didn't worry too much about being perfect the first time. If you get stuck on something, just move on and later it may become more clear to you. After completing the scarf project, I moved on to the Bucket Hat project. Then I found some patterns online. I was truly a novice in the craft of crochet, and this book has helped me to complete several crocheting projects. I still refer to it if I can't remember how to complete a particular stitch.

I had received a crochet book as a gift and it seemed much to technical for a beginner. ordered this book hoping that it would be easier to understand. So far so good. It has answered many of my questions.

This book has it all. All of the beginner stitches and a few extra were shown with easy to follow instructions. All things needed to begin crocheting were gone over and fully explained. There were simple beginner projects like scarves and such included in the chapters with detailed instructions for you to follow. After reading this book, you should be able to get underway! I would recommend this book for beginners and novices. It's also good to keep as a reference book to go back to when you have a project with a few stitches that you haven't done in a while.

I like this book a lot for reference. I already knew how to crochet but I've been away for a couple of years and needed a refresher. I was always taught to turn my work anti clockwise (counter clockwise) and this book says to turn your work clockwise. I will do that but I need to know why this direction is different from the CGOA and Yarn Council of America.Unfortunately, there is know way to contact them to clarify.

Granny Squares used to be the only thing I could do, and didn't even know the stitches I was using when I made them. Now I make all sorts of things, and this reference book stays with me when I do. Good descriptions of how to do different stitches and styles, includes a few patterns to get started. Book is broken into chapters, but I usually go straight for the index to take me where I need info. With this book in your yarn basket you will be able to go well beyond the basic scarf. Bought one for my grand-daughter who really got into crocheting this past summer.

I have purchased other "Dummies" books in the past, and am never surprised. I like the fact that if you can understand one Dummies book, you can understand them all. The style in which they are written is always the same. I want to learn how to crochet flowers to use on greeting cards...I am a card maker. I haven't had a lot of time to practice yet, but I do feel that this book will walk me through anything I could ever learn in a class that I would have to physically attend. I don't have time for that, but know that I can fit my lessons in at my leisure, and like the fact that the book won't be discouraged when I, as a student, need to go over a particular step several times. You can always be assured the Dummies books will help you, right down to the most basic steps.

After months of trying to teach myself to crochet off of youtube tutorials, and still not managing to make anything nice enough to allow to leave the house, I finally broke down and bought this book. Unlike a book that I had bought previously that pretty much seemed to be written in another language, this was really readable. Literally a week and a half later I was able to crochet things I am really proud of. I am considering opening an etsy shop now and crochet all the time. I tell all my friends and anyone else who wants to crochet to buy this book. It works!

I purchased this book for my granddaughter who wanted to learn to crochet. She lives out of town so I could not teach her. I have crocheted for over 5o yrs and I found it difficult to follow let alone some one who can not crochet.

Be aware that this book is for american crochet terms. Easy step by step instructions with pictures. Comes in very handy as a quick guide when you just need to be reminded and also for beginners who need to learn from the start.
