I got this primarily to analyze the espresso and coffee that I make. It is very easy to use - just use the dropper to put a few drops on to the sensor and close the lid. You can get an initial reading immediately, or hold down the button to get an average of several readings. This is generally more accurate. I have checked the accuracy by stirring my coffee, taking a sample and testing it. Then clean off the sensor, stir it and test it again to compare the two readings. I've never had a problem with the readings being different when I use the average measuring method. For curiosity's sake I bought a regular coffee at Starbucks just to see what their level was. The manager came over to ask what I was doing and I told her. She was very concerned that I was checking it out and asked me several times who I worked for and why I was doing it. Clearly she did not believe it was doing it just to do it.In any case you can also use this to measure sugar. It is remarkable to see how much sugar is in a Coke - a LOT. Again, I did this for fun. Skim milk has slightly MORE sugar than whole milk - I don't know how that is possible, but I suppose it has something to do with what is left over when you take out all the fat.The one problem I had was with espresso. I think it is just too thick for the machine to analyze correctly - it just maxes out. However if you make an Americano with the espresso, you CAN measure that. I prefer espresso as it is, as well as brewed coffee, so I guess I won't really be using it for the espresso. This was a fun tool to have and check out various things in my house but I doubt I will be using it on a regular basis. However I can see a coffee shop or perhaps a diabetic concerned about hidden sugar in a drink using it. The price seems reasonable for what it does - I think that makes it a pretty good value.

I bought this to test TDS in coffee. It is all over the place and almost never gives the same reading for the same coffee. It was a waste of money and I am having a hard time returning it.

Worked great. You have to calibrate it 3ach time, but that is easy. I was easily able to get my brew extractions.
