I got this to stop my dogs from barking. Didn't work. I went through all the ranges of pitch and only if it was quiet and I was close to them did it do anything. Not enough to snap them out of barking. It's totally audible, I know you can hear them a bit but this was more volume than I expected.Unfortunately I have to return the item. I was excited to try something new and not have to snap my fingers everytime.Oh well, back to the drawing board.

I have a very smart, very stubborn little Min Pin/Pug mix and a nice fenced-in yard where he goes to do his business and run off pent-up energy. Problem is, he doesn't want to come in until he's sniffed every square inch, which is a problem when it's bone-chilling cold or 2:00 in the morning when Mom wants to get him back inside so she can go to bed. Ever try commanding a stubborn dog to come inside in a voice low enough not to wake the neighbors? Or go running after him in slippers and a bathrobe when it's 20 degrees and snowing? Not fun.So I thought, how about getting one of those whistles that only dogs can hear? I looked up a few YouTube videos on training dogs with these whistles, and it seemed like it might be the answer. At first, I didn't think this whistle was working, or at least, wasn't working with my little guy. He showed no response at all when I blew it. The videos I'd watched advised training with a "high value" treat, i.e., a little chunk of hot dog or other smelly treat, tooting the whistle at the same time. It took my dog maybe half a dozen tries before he caught on.Now, I can stand inside my enclosed back porch and blow the special series of toots I worked out, and maybe eight times out of ten, Dobby comes running. I make sure to always give him a treat when he obeys the whistle, even if he doesn't come the first (or second, or third) time I blow it. You have to always make sure that coming to you when you give him the signal is fun and rewarding. I still need to work with him - like I said, he's stubborn! But it's a vast improvement over screaming, "Dobby, GET IN HERE!" in the wee hours of the morning. And my slippers stay nice and dry.

This whistle did not work for my puppy a 20 pound American bull terrier. I don't know if breed or size has anything to do with it but I included it just to give an example. I tried everything step by step but nothing happened not even my cat looked like he heard anything.

My dog laughs at it. The whistle itself it’s good quality product “well made” but at least on my Labrador retriever it has no effect

Its overall great. There are no directions that come with this so it was a bit of a pain to figure out how to make the adjustable pitch stay where I choose, but once that was done no complaints. The whistle appears to be well made and the strap it comes with is nice as well.

Looks nice. I don't have a dog (anymore... RIP), but do feed some outside cats, so was hoping to use this as a "dinner bell" that would let them know it's feeding time without drawing too much attention from the neighbors.Nice snug fit in the dust cover, haven't tried "tuning" it for the cats to hear, so I don't know yet how well that mechanism works, but it certainly seems like a sound (haha) design. Never had one of these before, so honestly wouldn't know good from bad.The emailed how-to ebook was a nice touch, and is much appreciated!Initial reaction is positive, and I don't think I'd have any problem getting another if I needed one.

My tale includes four dogs -- two on my side of the fence and two on the neighbors' side. That makes a total of four dogs who love to "fence fight." Fortunately, they are sweet dogs - just anxious to see who can bark the loudest. I didn't get the whistle to make them stop barking. I just wanted to get my dogs' attention over the noise. And guess what! It has worked. The whistle's instructions were easy to follow and I have been able adjust the pitch to get Max's attention and it's a sight to behold to see him come running! I'll probably order a second whistle so I can adjust it to my other dog Willie's ears!

I thought this was the type of dog whistle that was mostly silent to humans and only heard by dogs. It's not, its very audible to humans and loud. I was attempting to try and reduce my neighbor's dogs barking, they bark at the air for hours upon hours. With it being very loud it wasn't going to work for me, I didn't want to stand there at the wall blowing on it and have my neighbors hear it too. I gave it to my aunt who has 2 mini schnauzers, thinking she could use it for training purposes, what it is actually intended for. Neither one responded to it, one of them was so scared of it he ran and hid the rest of the evening. The other one didn't run off but he didn't really care about it either, after hearing it a couple times he just went about his way and ignored it. I'm giving it 2 stars because it is made well, very sturdy, lanyard is good quality and the whistle is very loud, crisp and quick sounding for people who have dogs that respond to whistle training; Unfortunately, it didn't work for that purpose on my aunt's dogs and it did not work for my purpose of a silent whistle.
