EarthMinded DIY Rain Barrel Diverter and Parts Kit (for 2 x 3 inch and 3 x 4 inch regular downspouts) is a state-of-the-art water collection system that allows you to convert any barrel or container into a rain barrel in minutes.
A rain barrel can be located at any downspout around the home, garage or out-building to catch and store rainwater that can be used to water flowers, plants, lawns and landscaping, as well as for other outdoor chores. Rain barrels are an effective and environmentally friendly approach to water conservation and allow you to save water while reducing your water bill. Rain water does not contain chemical additives commonly found in tap water, making for healthier plants and soil.
The patented FlexiFit diverter installs easily by drilling a single hole into any standard 2” x 3” or 3” x 4” rectangular downspout. The diverter sends rainwater directly into the barrel. Once the barrel is full, the diverter will automatically pass excess water through the downspout. The kit includes a spigot designed for filling watering cans and a connection for a soaker hose.
The FlexiFit diverter offers advantages over conventional top fill rain barrels that commonly overfill and flood with heavy rain, requiring permanent modifications to your downspout.
The parts kit is designed for use with a suitable water tight container with lid or a sealed drum. It works with plastic and wooden barrels but is not designed for use with metal drums.
The following tools are required to install the kit: drill, level, measuring tape, screw driver, pencil or marker, scissors, safety glasses, safety gloves.
Please note that water capture percentage is reduced with 3” x 4” downspouts. We recommend measuring your rectangular downspout before ordering this product.

This Rain barrel kit, comes with easy to use directions. The pieces are very sturdy and can be used for multi years. It takes less than an hour to drill the holes, (templates included) assemble the pieces and place your finished Rain barrel near the downspout on your house. I like that it includes 2 water spouts. One for placing a bucket underneath, and the other for a hose both to attach for watering or to empty the barrel. With drought prone areas use of water barrels, are a valuable resource for outside watering.

Good stuff. Great to have ability to remove insert and cap barrel and gutter for the winter. This 2 size gutter package was perfect for our situation. Nice to use free plastic barrels from a farm friend instead of having to buy 2 $100+ each rain barrels from a store. And we'd still have to buy diverters! The large hole saw blade in the kit is only good for plastic/vinyl gutters. I used a roto-zip to cut hole in metal gutter. Instructions were very clear.

I installed the kit on the first barrel system and it looks and works well.

This is the second kit I've ordered. I've used this kit for 55 gallon rain barrels as well as IBC totes. I have the older, smaller metal downspouts so the 2x3 works great for me. I researched buying just the few parts I needed for the IBC tote because I didn't need all the parts and being a second purchase I also didn't need the circular bits again. However after researching, I found buying them in this kit was still cheaper than purchasing separate parts on their website or through Amazon.

I had thought I wouldn't be using more than half of the kit with the design ideas I had, but after doing my research I found that this kit was still the best value. And I ended up using almost everything in the kit; it all fit well into my planned variations.Installation is very simple, although not always easy; you have to exert some effort in a few places. I could recognize that good planning went into the kit design. There are helpful tips in the instructions that I know benefitted me. I won't hesitate to get these again if I need to make another rain barrel. My only concern: The water diverter is secured to the downspout with self tapping sheet metal screws. These screws are removed and reinserted to put the winter cover over the diverter. I don't think the downspout sheet metal will survive a second inserting of these screws. It's a good thing I'll never need the winter cover.Of note is that the provided spigot is PLASTIC, not metal. That turned out to be a blessing for me when I realized I needed to tap its supply side so I could connect a pump to it.I had some leakage around one spigot shaft when it was turned off tightly. That seems to have been from back pressure in the attached hose that was placed on top of the barrel. Between removing the hose and only turning the spigot off gently, one of them stopped the leakage. I haven't seen it again, but the water level isn't yet that high to know if there is a problem.

I live in Atlanta where water in the summer is precious. I have decided to create a rain harvesting system for my yard and bought two food-grade 50-gallon barrels to put on different sides of my house. These diverter kits worked perfectly well. I'm a woman who knows how to work a drill, so this was relatively easy for me and took about 2 hours for the two barrels. I even connected my long garden hose to one of them. There's not a lot of pressure in it, so for the next year I will either put the barrel up even higher or switch places between the spigot and the hose. And, by the way, we have a lot of rains in Atlanta this year so my barrels are almost always full. I even use the water for technical jobs like washing my deck or the compost bin.

While the kit has everything you need for most installations, some of the parts are incredibly cheap plastic. I had no idea you could even buy spigots as cheesy as these. At least the thread on them is standard sized so a spigot from your neighborhood hardware store will work. The diverter does not fit well to downspout because the metal downspouts are ribbed, not smooth. I expect leakage as others have noted. On the plus side, the threaded rubber adapters make it very easy to fit the spigot and drain fitting if you have a barrel without an open top. The included hole saws should reduce extra trips to the hardware store and insure the correct size holes for the pieces. It would be nice to just buy the pieces you need for your situation and not have to buy the whole kit. I'm setting up four rain barrels on multiple downspouts and don't need multiple hole saws. Because some parts don't work for my installations, I have as many parts left over as were used out of the kits.

This runty old woman still has a few skills. I have had two 55gal drums sitting at the side of my yard waiting for me to find a rain barrel conversion kit like this one. Neighbors whose windows overlook my yard may have been amused to see me straddle the barrel to drill the holes needed, but, at the end of the day, I had one perfectly functional rain barrel. Based on another review, I also purchased a brass faucet to replace the plastic one provided in the kit. There does not really appear to be anything wrong with the plastic faucet; it seems to be a good heavy-duty outdoor quality item, and I will probably use it on the other barrel once I decide which downspout would be the best placement. Getting the interior ring into the hole from the outside (because my barrel's lid is not removable) should have been equally amusing, but it got done. The instructions were clear and comprehensive, including directions for different kinds of barrels. The kit has everything needed to convert such a drum to a rain barrel with the exception, of course, of the drill and pipe sealant tape.Because I ordered the two-pack, I now have two sets of hole saws. Would have been more cost-effective ((Have you seen the current pricing!?!) and sensible to have been packaged AS a two-pack, with one set of saws. Also, less clutter in the tool box. Nevertheless, this was an excellent buy.
