This well designed product was just what I needed for my basement stairwell drain which would often get blocked by leaves, "helicopters", and other plant debris. Even though I checked and cleared out the drain area weekly, during a rainstorm leaves would blow in and more than once I had flooding in my basement when water couldn't drain and then came in under my basement door. I bought pads to place inside the door to help soak up water, but then I found this drain defender. It is very sturdy and keeps all leaves and debris away from the drain so that water goes down easily. What a relief to finally have my problem solved!

Using this for a below grade basement door drain. We've had many issues over the years where just a few leaves can block the drain causing water to backup and eventually make it under the door. Spent thousands on sump pumps and other remediation, only for the drain to still back up - until now. This little device would likely have saved me much money but now I feel extra safe when the heavy rain comes.

Great quality product, very impressed with the success of how well it works for my yard storm drains. In fact works so well over two big rain storms that I have since ordered another one for another yard drain. This really stopped all the stuff from going down the drain that I’d have to dig out after the rain storm . It really saves me a lot of work in the future I am proactive and stomping all the stuff from going down the drain, it keeps the drain from clogging up during the storm so all the water gets through the pipe in the rain storm and I’m not outside, trying to clear the entrance of the drain, I simply check it out after the rain storm and pick up anything that it stopped so it’s clear for the next rain storm. I don’t have to worry now about clearing out the whole storm drain.

This is exactly what I needed to keep leaves from clogging up the drain at my basement walk-up. Looks nicer than the colander with a brick on it that I's been using.

This drain is perfect. We live in a basement and our front starway fills with leaves and floods during big rains to the point where we used to have to get up every few hours and manually clear our drain or the water would get so high it'd leak in. With this drain we have never needed to clear away any debris! It does pose a fairly serious tripping hazard as it sits high and farther out than the drain but it works so insanely well that I think it is still worth five stars. Be mindful when you first set it up and give any guest or handymen a heads up when they come over so no falls occur!

Had to buy another piece for this to fit inside the drain. Otherwise, wind or any object will remove it from the drain.

I don't know about you, but there are certain things my husband and I struggle with in our home that we thought there was no hope for...one of the worst things was living in fear of every rainstorm because the drains in our driveway or the side of the house would clog with debris (no matter how often we swept) and the water would back up and flood the basement. It was to the point that if we heard rain in the middle of the night we had to get up and check the drains...and often saw a small lake forming and had to go running out in rainboots at 4am to clear them. After a particularly terrible storm I did a search thinking we can't be the only ones with this issue, and turns out I was right! After reading the reviews I ordered one for same-day delivery - it arrived just in time to test out with more massive rain that day and it was a MIRACLE to see it at work. Debris gathered around the sides and the water was still able to get to the drain, just as it was supposed to. We almost wept with relief and joy - we had no idea there was such a simple, ingenious device waiting to eliminate so much stress in our life!! I instantly ordered another one for the side of the house, and am writing this review with sincere gratitude to the makers of this product! :)

So far it has solved the issue of water build up when leaves and debris cover the drain. You just need to place it directly on the drain. Will have to see how long it lasts.

Had an issue in the alley between my house and neighbour where, if a big rain storm rolled in, I'd be awake all night checking to make sure the drain didn't get covered with leaves or other debris. Bought this drain defender hoping it would work, and what a difference it has made. Not once have I had any leaves block the drain. No more middle of the night runs to check the drain during heavy rains. It's expensive, but well worth it.
