I was really excited when I saw this hand crank mixer, I didn't know they existed anymore. My grandmother had one and I always loved using it. Now, is this the solid metal with a wooden handle mixer like my grandmother had? No. The mixers are stainless steel and the rest is painted plastic, so it's much lighter but I don't feel it's flimsy.My house is older and electric outlet challenged so it's nice to pull this mixer out and be able to use it in any part of my kitchen. I don't have a dishwasher, but it cleans up easily when hand washing it. I mixed brownie batter with it the other day and I had no issues.

I like to have manual egg beaters on hand in to use for making whipped cream and egg dishes. We only use this for eggs or cream and it works great for that. The beaters are mostly made of plastic but the actual blades are made of stainless steel. I had no problem mixing normally. We don't have a dishwasher so everything gets hand washed. The spatula and pastry brush are a nice addition. The egg beaters are also good to keep kids busy, have them help in the kitchen learn how to whip cream.

I’ve had to cut 3 pages down to bullet points. Trying to explain what you really get1. Main picture of ad is what I wanted. Buried in additional pictures is what it actually is. They look close enough to not challenge your first impression.2. Says “stainless steel” so you think all of it is. The entire upper half is hollow plastic coated with mylar paint to look metallic. Every part. Hand-hold, body frame, crank handle AND EVEN THE GEAR, all plastic.3. What you DON’T get: The front-to-back protective guide bar. Beater blades made from the same round stock as the spindle they rotate around. Flared shape as wide as the handle.4. What you DO get: strips of thin sheet metal, bent in a straight taper about an inch at their widest. Flip back and forth between main advert photo and the one with 4 separate images to see differences.5. Flat sheet metal blades will scratch your bowl and tend to catch on each other.6. Cranking is jerky unless you get it going so fast that it’s hard to keep upright. Feels flimsy.7. The added Spatula and silicone brush handles develop a twist because ends of the bent steel can rotate inside the heads, but they are durable.8. I’ll give it a star or two just for being inexpensive and including the extra utensils.

This product is exactly as described. Its handle, gears and the crank are made of sturdy plastic. The key component that touches the food is made of pure steel. This beater/mixer is very lightweight and easy to handle. The only downside of the chrome plastic material is that the motion of the handle and gear rotation is not very smooth.The included silicone spatula and brush make it a complete package that is economical as well.

I'm very disappointed in the low build quality of this manual egg beater. I've used similar beaters in decades past, and knew as soon as I had this in my hands that it's cheaply made. It's so lightweight, like a child's toy. The handle, turning knob, and gear are all plastic, shiny silver plastic that mimics the look of metal. The gear doesn't turn smoothly. I think the only part that is actually stainless steel are the beaters. I'll use it as long as it lasts, but it just doesn't feel quality at all.

Close your hand, as if you were making a fist. Now measure the width of your hand across your knuckles. That's the part that will need to comfortably fit in the handle of this retro style egg beater. It is around 3.5 inches at it's absolute widest part and tapers down to about 2.5 inches nearer the base of the handle. Now, my hand fits perfectly into this, but I have people with broader hands who could not hold the top at all!So that's a very small criticism overall. My second critique is a bit more meaningful; this object is very light weight. It's way less than a coffee cup. It's hollow in spots and when they say 'silver' in the description they mean silver *in color* not that it is metallic, which it isn't. It is NOT dishwasher safe, which, now that I see it, doesn't surprise me. I still think that's okay as long as you were intending to mix eggs or something fairly liquid. But if you wanted to go after, say, some peanut butter or chunky tomato mix with this? You'll have a hard time holding it still because the harder or lumpier consistency will start moving the beaters rather than being moved *by* the beaters.I'm going to say the spatula this comes with is perfectly fine, it certainly gets the last bit of egg out of a bowl. The little pastry brush that comes with it is also really cute, but less functional than I'd love. I have a standard one and this looks like a small miniatured in comparison with very, very short bristles. If I were mixing something like a glaze for muffins and then brushing it on this would be fine, but for anything large it would be intensely tedious. I don't know it's really a criticism because you sort of get those two things as 'extras' and they are both usable.Final verdict? You get what you pay for here. It's workable, it's quaint. If the power goes out where you live and you want a manual way of fast-mixing something? It'll work. I don't know it would ever enter your daily routine though. I'd also love to have this tested to see what it's made from. It's too light weight to be lead at least. Maybe aluminum?
