Awesome rod! The 3 pieces are NOT designed to sit flush when assembled. There’s supposed to be a slight gap between the pieces. I caught this 4.5 foot Tarpon in the Bahamas last week using this rod. 50lbs and it performed perfectly. The fact that it was so easy to transport on the plane is a bonus! You won’t find a better heavy travel rod at this price point!

Purchased the 7', 3-piece. It is described as a 'spinning' rod. But the rod is somewhat caught in between a boat rod and a casting rod. It's just too stiff of a rod to use for distance casting. Also, the first guide is somewhat small for the spinning reel size one would use (6000 or larger). So I wouldn't pair it with a spinning reel. However, my needs were:1. Easy to travel with2. Versatility to use as a boat rod for either bottom fishing or bait casting or trolling3. Capable of landing fish to 40 pounds. It is capable of all three. Its three pieces were compact in the case that came with the rod. It won't fit into a checked bag but I easily carried it on board a plane as a personal item. I paired it with a Penn Rival 15LW (it can certainly take a larger reel but I need to travel with minimal weight and size, so I went with this reel). I practiced casting with it in the backyard using a 1-ounce sinker. I could get 30-40yds distance. So, yes you can cast with this rod. If you needed to put a spinning reel on it, you could - but it's best paired with a smooth casting conventional reel. This is NOT a surf casting rod - not enough whip in the upper portion of the rod. I used it for trolling and bottom fishing in the Florida Keys with jigs, spoons, umbrella rigs. I didn't catch a fish on this specific rod but it would do well for anything from 5lbs (overkill for this size fish, yes) up to 50lbs or more. It's also a very handsome looking rod if that matters to use.

I caught two small fish from shore, and I actually liked how the rod felt, I hooked into a bigger fish, and went to set the hook well, the top section of the rod completely snapped off, I was stunned, even a rod as cheap as this should not do this. The rod looks great, but the material is extremely weak or brittle, do not buy.

3 pc. 8ft. Heavy Spinning Rod 30-50lb rated for Pier Fishing in Galveston, Texas. In Galveston, Texas Pier Rods must be less than 10 ft. However I prefer to Surf Fish from the beach with 2-4pc.. 12-15 ft Medium-Heavy Spinning Rods rated 30- 50lb's using #10,000 Spinning Reels with 40lb braid line for their ability to cast distances of 100-175 yards easily using 3-5 oz of pryamid lead weight with a "trigger mechanism" and 3ft. steel or monofilament slider leader rated at a little over 130 lb test. I can easily transfer my #10,000 Spinning Reels & leaders over to either the 8 ft. or the 12-15 ft. Spinning Rods. My braid line & swivel & quick snaps I use allows easy leader removal & passage of just the braid line & swivel connector through the eyelets on the rods for easy dissasembly and reassembly. And my rods have pre-installed triigger mechanisms on each rod. When broken down all the rods are only 3-5 ft in length so pop all of them in the trunk of a car with your reels and head to the beach. Just remember that 2-4pc. rods only "slide together". NEVER FORCE THEM TOGETHER OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THEM. They are made for "easy assembly and dissasembly". And are made to wear on the inserted end. So do not think they are not fully inserted together they are! Some of the inserted end will show when put together this is normal. LIGHTLY piece them together for ease of dissasembly. I use 2-4 pc. rods without ever having any problems. NEVER let your line weight exceed your max weight rating for your rod, or your reel for a well built rig that will not damage itself.

OK. So, I don't do as many reviews as I should on Amazon. I usually rely on all you folks. But I just received 2 more of these rods. What our family does with these is to travel on planes and go fish saltwater. Value for buck is good, but there's one thing you should know. You need to sand down the connecting points on some of these or you will NEVER get them apart. I actually own one at our condo down south where I can't get it apart. Not with tools. Not with two people pulling. So I left it there. But there's a simple solution. Sand the connection point down. Keep testing it. Then use the graphite you just made to slide better. Then you've got a really solid travel rod that's about 6.5 feet long. It's action is very fast, meaning it's a very stiff rod. This works out to being a great speed jigging rod, OK for casting. It can handle a large reel. It's not going to give you a crazy long shore cast because it's not long or bendy. It does OK in that regard, but not really what it's designed for. The people who said it broke probably lost the top piece because they threw it in the ocean after the couldn't get it secure. I've never broken a piece but I did do that. Then they sent me a new one for about $10 from China, with solid customer service but it did take like 6 weeks. I've caught BIG fish on this, multiple times. I really can't find a better rod for the money, and believe me, I've definitely looked and bought other ones that I believed would be fine. I'm just never going to spend $150 for a rod. This one actually does the job.

I bought this rod unknowing the quality and construction. I had an Okuma 3 piece offshore spin cast and the tip broke twice on it fighting a fish. This rod is extremely strong, I've caught numerous Yellowfin Tuna on it to about 80 pounds with out any issue. The ONLY issue is that the reel seat has come separated from the rod itself and when the reel is attached it spins around the rod. If you holding the reel at the seat, no problem it will not spin. But if you are not holding it, its very hard to reel when fighting a fish.
