The item arrived completely defective. The box was not damaged at all, but the internals of the device were cracked and broken, with shards of plastic and loose bolts rattling around inside. The center post to hold the plate was detached because none of the screws were screwed in, and one of the screw thread holes was cracked apart. After reconnecting the screws, I went to plug it in, and it doesn't even turn on. The whole device is plastic, and for the cost, I would expect metal, or at least some level of quality, but this thing is a useless piece of crap. For a product marketing itself as an "American Brand," it's unbelievable shoddy craftsmanship.

Just out of the box and it's not going great. Using the included 500g mass the scale is measuring 499.91g. So the accuracy is 0.09 grams (i.e., the ability of the balance to measure close to a true value is just ok) the precision of the balance (i.e., its ability to reproduce the same measurement multiple times) does seem to be (0.01g). Ten measurements of the 500g mass range from 499.89 to 499.91. I also had problems with weighing small masses (0.01g). The scale would not record a change in mass for a bit as I added powder and then the reading would jump.The description states (and the manual does too) that the scale can be calibrated but the scale's built-in calibration function needs a 200g mass, which I don't have. Why doesn't the company include the mass one needs to calibrate the balance? TThe 2nd picture shows that the bubble level has low accuracy compared to the two line levels. The bubble in the two orthogonal line levels is in the middle but the bubble in the scale's spirit level is halfway outside/inside the center ring. So the scale was apparently calibrated to the bubble level (that's where the 500 g weight measured accurately) but if the scale was made level by the two line levels (and was parallel to the lab bench) the mass was way off.If I had a 200g mass I could have recalibrated but didn't have one. And the sensitivity of the scale was too low for my purposes. I ended up sending it back.

Only had it a short while but so far it is a joy to use in the kitchen for the quantitatively compulsive. It only got 4 stars because of construction … it ain't no Ohaus so I have some concern about longevity. I will revisit this review after using it long enough to make some assessment of how robust this instrument is.
