This unit worked as a perfect replacement for both a 2000 Nissan Maxima, and 2001 Infiniti i30, as well as 2001 Maxima, and 2000 Infiniti which use the same part. The front dust cover, and the rear dust cover will work, and the center retention nut is at the proper recess level for access from either above or below. (Compared to the Dayco which failed on dust covers, recessing, and depth of the pulley.) This Gates unit worked perfectly. It is different from the original Nissan OEM in one respect, the Gates has a slightly larger outside dimension on its pressed in sealed bearing compared with the bearing outside dimension of the original Nissan OEM (so you cannot press out and swap the bearings). But the units as a whole are perfectly compatible with all vehicles mentioned.

This is a long-term review after about two months of constant use in a Nissan engine. There's not much to say here. The pulley attaches easily. The pulley will restore silence to your engine if the pulley that you are replacing has become noisy.Personally, I recommend changing the belt at the same time. It is known that some belts and pulleys wear together and when a pulley is change without changing the belt, then you may need to tweak the reinstallation of the old belt order to get everything running smoothly. For example, if you lose track of the exact orientation of the old belt and go to reinstall it, then you might encounter noise. You may have to take the belt off, flip it over to the orientation that the belt was originally in before you took it off. Buying a new belt eliminates any tweaking that you might have to do with an old belt that you are reinstalling. Many people attempt to put the old belt back on and they encounter noise. Of course, they then think that the new pulley they purchased is trash. This is not the case.

Pay attention to the one on the engine when you take it off, there is a "front" and "back" and if you don't keep it straight it gets confusing. Otherwise no issues.

Installed on 2006 Murano. Followed advice from other reviewers regarding the original caps and kept them for possible use. It does the work and eliminated the noise. It has been about 3 weeks. I will update in the future for durability.

I had my OEM 2005 Nissan Quest idler replaced, preemptively along with an AC job --- as I know these can sometimes fail anywhere north of 100k on most makes. Glad I chose to pay more for this Gates one...Very high quality, marked clearly "Made in Canada", and very smooth and robust feeling. If your idler pulley goes out on most modern vehicles -- it's a show stopper. Buy a good one, and replace high mileage units when it makes sense. As stated by others, you cannot use the OEM dust cover, and that does not matter because this new one uses a nice sealed bearing.

I purchased this for a "1995 Maxima" VQ30D but like another reviewer said the factory dust cover will not work with this pulley.tried installing with the cover and it was binding on it,. no big deal and works fine without it,.id suggest one from the dealer if you want OEM specs on the item.here is a note from gates on the cover. they say washer when referring to the metal dust cover."NOTE: Always check for interference before re-installing the washer. In some cases, the washer may not fit in the new pulley. If this is the case, it is not necessary to replace the washer. The pulley will “center up” automatically as the bolt is tightened. The bearing in the idler is already greased and sealed. Tighten the pulley bolt and reinstall the tensioner. No adjustment is required for belt tension."
