Worked great to test my grounding mat!

Did what I needed it to do! I bought a grounding sheet and needed to make sure that my outlet was grounded. This was more useful than the actual grounding sheet! Lol

Does exactly what it's meant to do. Note that it not only confirms that the outlet is properly wired, and also tests GFCIs, but DOES NOT test AFCIs. It's not designed to do that, so it is not a shortcoming. A tester that also does AFCIs will cost quite a bit more.

Really handy but you need to learn how to use it : the red button is just to test some specific kind of outlets. To know if an outlet is grounded and suitable to use with a grounding mat, you just need to plug it. If the two yellow lights (middle and right) are on, you are good to go!Just know that many older houses in North America (1970-80 and before) have grounded outlets only in the kitchen and washrooms.

I wouldn't consider these professional or the tool of a professional. I had some outlets that needed upgrading (GFCI in the kitchen and bathroom) and wanted to check my work and if the grounding was proper before and after the installation. This let me know I correctly installed the outlets so I could move onto the next task.

Handy little tester to easily identify any possible wiring faults. The lights are clearly visible and the attached chart shows what the fault is as well as show when all is good. Though it doesn't claim to test GFCI outlets, pressing the button trips the GFCI relay to show that the GFCI is working. The design is great since it can be easily pushed into a duplex outlet socket without blocking or being blocked by anything in the other outlet socket.

This device is just like units from lots of other vendors. Like the others, this one is simple and works quickly to identify major wiring problems with electric outlets. A slight problem with this specific model is that the instructions included with the product don't cover its operation completely. The product page indicates it can check GFCI operation, but it doesn't give detailed instructions on how to test this. The instructions that came with the device don't cover checking GFCIs, and in fact state "will not test . . . GFCI in circuit". Despite the discrepancies in the instructions, this tester will test for GFCI operation; press the red button and a working GFCI will trip. You can accomplish the same thing by pressing the TEST button that's on all GFCIs.The five faults listed on the tester itself and in the instructions are readily detected. If you insert this into a 120-v outlet and the two yellow lights glow brightly, all is OK. If any of the other listed light combinations occur or if the two yellow lights glow dimly, there are problems with the outlet wiring.Using this device is an easy and quick way to check outlets, but if you get anything other than two bright yellow lights, you need more instruments and some troubleshooting expertise to correct the problem.
