Your cart is empty.This is a beautiful and quality Menorah with Reliefs of the 12 tribes flags symbol. One of the most known symbols of the Jewish people that would look fabulous in your home or would make a thoughtful gift. This Menorah is made from polished pewter. The menorah is described in the Bible as the seven-branched ancient lamp stand and used in the portable sanctuary set up by Moses in the wilderness and later in the Temple in Jerusalem. Fresh olive oil of the purest quality was burned daily to light its lamps. The Menorah has been a symbol of Judaism since ancient times and is the emblem on the coat of arms of the modern state of Israel! The Symbols of the Tribes are often depicted in Synagogues. The Book of Numbers tells us that each Tribe had its characteristic symbol used in its encampment. According to the Midrash each of the Tribes appears to have had an animal symbol as well as another one. Not all the symbols are known to us. *Judah- a lion. *Levi- the Priestly Breastplate. *Shimon- the picture of the entrance to a walled city. *Reuben- is often depicted by a Rising Sun. *Asher- an olive tree. *Gad- a row of tents representing a camp of soldiers. *Naphtali - a doe i.e. a female deer. *Dan- a pair of scales representing judgement. *Benjamin- a wolf. *Joseph- a sheaf of wheat. *Manasseh- is an animal called a Ream (Unicorn). *Zebulon- is a ship. *Issachar- is an astronomical configuration.
