Part arrived promptly and was easy to swap out. There are lots of youtube tutorials which show you how to do this. Took less than 30 minutes to swap it out. New valve works good. Shower works as good as new.

Shower repair. Before we could test for water temperature control, a leak developed. Not all the so rings that needed to be replaced were included with the replacement part.

My Kohler single lever Rite Temp K-304 shower valve dates back to about 1985. The mixer valve (cap) is brass with 3 splines on the handle end; no part number. The problem was a steady drip which developed after 36 years of flawless service. The Kohler website recommended the PB800820 PBU and PB77759 mixing valve. Kohler part number PB876851 contains both parts. I first ordered non-OEM versions of both parts because they were less expensive. I also ordered a non-OEM part PB500520, which is a copy of the PBU in my original unit. I installed these parts in almost every possible combination, but the drip, drip, drip problem persisted. Then I posted my problem on a plumbing help group on Facebook. One commenter suggested using genuine Kohler replacement parts. I did that and the shower finally stopped dripping. The non-OEM parts were the same dimensions and looked identical to the Kohler parts, but the Kohler parts fixed the problem and the others didn’t. Please note that if you have a different version of the Kohler K-304 shower valve, your experience may be different. The genuine Kohler parts cost me about $30 more on Amazon compared to the non-OEM parts
