I recently bought a pinner. I had a GREX variety pack and experienced zero jams or issues. As such, I chose to stay with GREX brand. So far, these have been following with my expectation with zero issues.

As one might expect, the GREX pins work very well in the GREX guns. I used these and other GREX pins in a new gun to build a hardwood staircase, using pins to attach moldings and risers. These 3/4" pins were used for shoe moldings and they are so small that there's no need to go back and stain or seal the hole. I had no bent pins, driving red oak moldings into hard red oak board that was sealed with several coats of hard polyurethane.I had tested this length of 23ga pins against a few other lengths, also GREX brand, and against my Senco 18ga brad gun in 3/4" red oak for penetration and precision. I found that both brads and pins would penetrate reasonably straight but of course would be pulled a bit by the grain pattern, the pins more than the brads. I wound up using brads for anything thicker than 1/2" hardwood in part for that reason, and in part for the added strength of the brads. The pin strips are marked to show which side is 'down' (one edge is chamfered to create a sharp penetrating edge). I have not tried other manufacturers' pins in this GREX gun and don't suppose that I will anytime soon, nor have I tried these pins in another manufacturer's gun. I did accidentally shoot a few pins prior to placing the gun tip on the wood surface during the job (the gun uses a double-trigger mechanism rather than a tip push-in safety, the double-trigger allows more accurate pin placement); they simply bounced off harmlessly and did not ricochet much at all (they are very lightweight), and posed no threat to me. Be sure to wear protective clothing and safety glasses all the same. If you use the GREX pin guns, I suspect these are the best pins to use.
