The grill is 100% cast iron except the three screws that use to screw the legs on. The build quality is top notch, the only complaint I have is that there really is no instruction how to put it together, I have to guess by looking at multiple pictures and made the best guess. I know my guess is incorrect if pieces doesn’t fit. However I didn’t take any star off due to very good price for a quality cast iron grill like this. And this would probably be the lightest cast iron grill I will be willing to bring with me to camping.

This grill is way smaller than you think but works for getting a quick stake on and off the grill without having to pull out the big boy grill. Easy to clean and store.

I've use a few small cast iron hibachi grills in the past, and this is a nice one at a budget price. Small and compact, but solid cast iron, this is built to last if you apply proper care. It comes lightly seasoned, but I gave it my usual seasoning process in the oven for added protection. Its perfect for camping and cooking small meals for 2-4 people. It would be nice if it came in a carrying box or storage bag.

This is a great little grill! It is small but okay for hot dogs, brats or burgers. I tried pork steaks but ended up having to grill one at a time. The grill holds the heat! I do recommend the grill for 1 or 2 people!

Item: Ironmax store’s Hibachi Grill 100% Cast IronPrice: $67.99To give some perspective to my opinion of the Ironmax ‘cast iron’ hibachi grill, I remember buying my first ‘hibachi’ in the early 1970s. And back then they were very inexpensive, but not always cast iron. Many that sold for as low as $2.99 were sheet metal with a small chromed grill. I remember cast iron, but it was more costly. So when examining the Ironmax, and having a goodly inventory of cast iron outdoor cookware in my outdoor kitchen, I was interested in seeing how the Ironmax compared in quality and price to my name brand cast iron flat grills, frying pans and dutch ovens. It actually compared reasonably well. To go from the Ironmax to my name brand’s hibachi requires paying a little over twice as much. Given the quality of the Ironmax, although a bit smaller than my name brand cast hibachi, I’d still recommend giving this one a good long look.Cast iron was the feature that caught my attention. Some hibachis that are budget priced are also made from thin sheet metal. From experience, and being a ‘portable-sized’ cookware item, I believe in ‘sturdy’ as one of the most important features. So you do have the cast iron. The only detractor with this hibachi, if ‘size’ is important to you, would be the grill size itself. It’s advertised as (12” x 8”). If you’re invested in cast iron as I am for my outdoor kitchen, if I were to go to my name brand and their hibachi, its grill size is (17” x 9”) and that hibachi came ‘pre-seasoned’. But then, the price is also up at the ($150+) price point. For me, I saw the Ironmax as a sturdy and compact option for quickly charcoal or wood grilling a single protein item; maybe two small steaks, for instance. And I do that often. So even for a quick outing or picnic, I see this as a viable option to add ‘heat’ to a picnic or campsite dinner; at minimum for appetizers like shrimp for spliting a steak for two. So I see the Ironmax as a viable decent value if you’re willing to ‘downsize’ a bit and consider sharing one large steak with a fellow member of your outdoor adventure. For its size, cast iron build and price, I see it as a fair 4.5 to 5 star item. Just remember that you will want to ‘season’ it. I’m oil-rubbing each casting piece separately and baking them off in our oven. And know that there are quality levels in castings. It relates to casting-density and heat retention. I've found you get that for which you pay. So be prepared for some trade-offs.

I have a few grills already, but there are different grills for different occasions. As we have recently become empty nesters, firing up the big Webber is a bit much sometimes. I have a smaller Webber as well, which works good for some things, but I have been eying a similar cast iron grill as this for a while, for those times I don't need a lid, or an indirect fire, and just need to grill things like Kabobs, meat on a stick, a couple of burgers, etc. However, as I already had a grill, I never really felt I could justify the cost. The one I was considering was quite pricey. Then I saw this. It seemed like a great opportunity to try one. We used to use a similar, much lower quality grill when camping as a kid.Assembly was simple. The parts that have to be attached even have indents that fit together, so you know you have it write before screwing in the screw. This is great. Seems solid. Has a great cooking surface, adjustable vents, really great for the two of us. I am glad I waited. Also, at about half the price of the other one I was considering, it seems like a great value as well. One thing I hadn't really considered is with my other grills, I cut off their oxygen supply by closing all of the vents when I am finished. Doing this extinguishes the charcoal. You can use it the next time. As this has no lid, that is not an option with this grill, unless were to dump its contents into another container that you could cut off from oxygen.Another thing I was a little surprised by is you can't really adjust the distance of the coals to the grate. That is fine I guess, but the super cheap hibach grill we had as a kid, there were slots and the grates had handles and you could adjust the height of the grate to adjust the heat. You can't do that here, but you can control the air flow.I am glad I waited until this came along.

Love it. It’s sturdy, quality build, easy to use, has good weight to it because it’s cast iron through and through. Good value and it’s conveniently the right size for camping and road trips. Only drawback is I thought it came with a storage box and a metal stick to open the vents. This does not include those two items so I remove one star.
