I ordered this mounting bracket to mount my replacement plug on my Ford Expedition. Due to the design and installation of the factory bracket and hitch, there was no way to mount the aftermarket bracket to the car without it being very low or at an unusable angle. I tried several different ways without success. I ended up using the bracket as a template to modify the factory bracket to fit the replacement plug. I couldn't return the bracket due to this, so it was a waste of money.

It'll be difficult to install the adapter without a bracket. It comes separately as, presumably, someone might have an old one still attached to the car.

Need to connect Trailer 7 pole & 4 wire running board lights. The 7 pole and 4 wire do not interfere with each other

I installed an aftermarket (Draw-Tite) hitch on my Volvo XC90 but I was using the OEM Volvo wiring setup...the one with a big, beautiful OEM plug that mounts cleanly below. I needed a mounting plate to hold the OEM plug. The issue was that the Volvo plug doesn't come unplugged for mounting and the harness is too big to thread through the tiny hole of a standard mounting plate. What makes this plate unique among others is the slit in the side. This allows you to slide the cables from an OEM trailer wire plug into the plate and mount it cleanly. without having to modify the plate. I know some plugs do come un-done from the back for mounting but, if yours doesn't, this is a great option. Other plates don't have that slit in it and it gives you a lot of flexibility in getting it mounted after the cabling is run.The construction is nice and heavy duty with a thick coating of paint or I don't know what. Hardware is included and is just okay...The screws didn't look amazingly rustproof, so I sprayed all of the screws, after mounting, with rubberized undercoating (in a can, available at any auto parts store) to protect them from rust.

Perfect part for bolting on the 7 wire. I grind a small slot on the 90° bend in between the two small reinforcing creases and strap it onto the hitch using a worm drive clamp (hose clamp) instead of trying to drill the hitch and compromise it. Works fantastically well and quick to install this way.

I re-did the entire wiring setup from my RV through my bike lift back to my Ford and it works like a charm now. The 7-conductor allows me to run the lights and run my tow-charge. Very pleased with the quality of all these components.

THE HOPKINS MOUNTING BRACKET IS NOT MORE THAN A PIECE OF METAL STAMPED OUT AND BENT TO ACCOMMODATE THE HOPKINS ADAPTER BUT, IT'S A SMALL ENOUGH GAGE METAL THAT ALLOWS ONE TO BEND AND SHAPE IT TO MOUNT THE ADAPTER WHERE ON THE REAR OF A VEHICLE ONE DESIRES WITHOUT MOLESTING THE SHAPE OF THE RECEPTOR. I FOUND THAT SELF TAPPING SCREWS ARE THE KEY TO THIS LITTLE PIECE OF TIN. ALTHOUGH THE BRACKET COMES WITH SCREWS AND NUTS AND WASHERS FOR MOUNTING THE ADAPTER ITSELF. WITHOUT THE HOPKINS BRACKET THE AMOUNT OF WORK WOULD HAVE COMPOUNDED. GET ONE. YOU'LL SAVE TIME AND MAYBE NOT MANGLE UP YOUR REAR END. DON OUT.
