I tried to remove the holding pieces but then without the mandrel it will did not accept US standard roll width. This must be good only for European toilet paper width of 3”. Now I cannot return it because the holding piece on one site broke off. It looks nice on the outside and solidly built, but it should be made clear what is the max with of “standard” roll.
