Do not buy! This product should not be sold. It looks beautiful but the turning mechanism is so off it won’t work. The gears get all jammed up because they don’t properly align—they haven’t been tooled properly. I bought one and thought it was defective. It worked for less than a week. Returned for another and the second one is worse. Didn’t bother installing and just sent it back. Don’t waste your time unless you want a bell purely for decorative purposes and not to actually use.

Gorgeous for any early 1900s home! But listen to me... drill your hole large enough to accommodate the thicker end of rod close to the twist key unless you have a counter sink bit. I had to go back and use the largest 1/2 inch drill bit to take a little more wood out. Even if you drill it a little larger than it actually needs, it can't hurt because it's all covered by the plates in the end, and it will turn with ease rather than needing some oomph. Also, this will seem like an obvious thing after I say it but, it comes with 4 Phillips screws, 2 of each size so use the longer ones on the actual bell side because that part is heavier than the front side. Its also a good idea to clean your door with a magic eraser after you drill all your holes using a level and take a moment to repaint, even if just that secton, if you were planning on it so you don't risk messing up the beautiful finish of this piece.

Very well-made, coated with something to make additional patina difficult. And doesn’t really work on walls greater than 4 inches thick, unfortunately it doesn’t come with an extension for thicker walls, so you’ll have to improvise. The sound is very nice
