I've had a lot of rs232 converters, this one didn't require a lot of driver fiddling. Just the FTDI one from the official website. Even comes with an adapter with screw terminals.

I used this to connect a 1989 SBIG ST-4 to my modern windows 10 computer. I was very suppressed - It connected first try! I used the MS DOS application running on windows 10 32bit without any fiddling at all.5/5 works quite well

If you are a techno-nerd like me, you have LOTS of legacy crap sitting around that you can no longer find the cables for. Usually they sit in a pile until you run into the cable or you get bored and throw them away (lo, like that ever happens). Anyway, this little gadget just works! It works with my Mac laptop, my Mac desktop, my Windows laptop. Old Rs232 connectors used to be the thing, and items like modems, Cisco routers, EPROM programmers, and even industrial things like scales used to use this interface. Now everything is USB (hallelujah). This gadget will not only let you connect to the "old time" stuff thru USB, but the lights are really helpful in diagnosing any connectivity issues (switch RX/TX) that might be causing you problems. It even comes with a breakout that will let you connect to serial devices without an RS232.This thing is now a permanent part of my go bag, since it will let me connect to almost any serial device at any time. If you are someone that needs something like this, I am very happy to highly recommend this particular unit. It has worked in every application with no problems at all.

I am reviewing the product "innomaker USB to Male DB9 Serial Cable FTDI FT230 Chip USB to RS232 Converter" on 4 May, 2024.I have a number of analog video caption decoders that output decoded text over a serial port. Needing to interface these vintage devices with modern equipment, I ordered a selection of USB-serial converter cables, of which the innomaker model is one.Like the other cables I tried, the innomaker connected flawlessly and easily between my vintage gear and a modern PC, and the text transfer was flawless. This model does have some unique features that are worth a consideration.First, it has handy LEDs indicating power, transmit, and receive, giving an at-a-glance visual verification of the state of the link. This can be very helpful when troubleshooting a recalcitrant connection, particularly when dealing with commonly reversed transmit/receive lines. Second, the internal wiring of this cable is unusually robust, including a shielded ground, and a woven mesh shield covering all the internal wires. This kind of shielding is useful for prevention of interference, which may be a consideration when deployed in an environment with numerous electronic devices, such as a server closet. This was not an issue in my home studio setup, but the added protection against potential future disturbances was reassuring. The adapter is supported by a FTDI FT230X chipset, part of the well-known and highly-regarded FTDI product line, which ensures broad compatibility. This cable retails at the higher-end of its class (in actuality, only a few dollars more than average) but if interference is a concern in your application, or if the indicator lights save you some troubleshooting time, the value added may be worth the outlay of a small premium. In any case, I am pleased to recommend the innomaker model to anyone needing a reliable serial-to-USB conversion.

VERDICTBuy this if you need a RS232 port connecting via DB9.WHYAs an electrical engineer, sometimes I need to interact with circuits using the old school serial port method. This helps me connect my modern laptop to serial port interfaces including home automation/lighting controllers, relays and other low level electronic circuits. The general public probably doesn't need this but engineers, scientists, students, and hobbyists could use this. As opposed to other similar products, this one has 3 simple LEDs on the plug: power, receive, transmit.

During installation of the USB2RS-232-C adapter I get the following error message: “A driver cannot load on this device”. See Image 1So, I turned off memory integrity and installed the drivers thinking that I would be able to turn memory integrity back on once they were installed. Well, that didn’t work, so while troubleshooting, I was advised to run windows update to resolve the issue. I did and there were updates that were then installed. But, I still cannot turn memory integrity back on. More troubleshooting has resolved nothing, so I attempted to remove the drivers, but they are not showing up in the device manager list of installed drivers.Windows tells me that the drivers are incompatible. See Image 2And now my security settings are warning me that there is a problem. See Image 3I contacted 'support@inno-maker.com' and they replied “I will forward your problem to ftid support team ask for more help.” It has been over a month and I have not heard anything else. I cannot delete the drivers and I cannot turn Memory Integrity back on. So my system is less secure and to date, I have not received any help from Inno-Maker.
