This ring clamp enables you to hold rings internally in order to work on the outer face of the ring easily. Unwind the wing nut anti-clockwise to loosen the center metal taper; mount the ring on the opposing end. To secure, turn the wing nut clockwise and the taper will tighten. This expands the four wooden jaws putting pressure inside the ring and hence locking, ready to be worked on. Overall length 5-3/4".

This works great for polishing rings. Saves one’s hands from being burned by hot metal & also keeps your hands much cleaner. North American size 4 is the smallest I can fit on it but I don’t produce rings smaller than that anyway.

The threads where cut so bad it's unusable. I managed to clean them up with a tap/die set but if I wanted to make this myself I wouldn't have bought it.

I haven't had this very long, but it's just what I was looking for. It has a firm grip, but the wooden clamp won't mar the workpiece. It might not work for the smallest or largest ring sizes, but seems fine for the common mid-range.It works when you tighten the wing nut at the bottom, and that pulls a small piston between the clamp's fingers to spread them inside the workpiece. My only complaint (a small one) is that when it's very loose, the piston spins freely inside the clamp and doesn't do its job - a slight design change could fix that. Hold it in place with a fingertip and it works fine, though.-- wiredweird
