I was recently tasked with scanning a great deal of photo albums from my grandmother. I initially started the process using a traditional flatbed scanner, but the process was slow and cumbersome. One day, I came across the IRIScan scanner and it looked promising. Unboxing was uneventful. all the cable and accessories you need are provided in the box. Setup was relatively simple. After placed and ready, just plug the scanner in and windows installed a device driver. I did not use any provided software as I was already using my own import software.Where things matter for me is image quality and convenience, and the IRIScan meets and exceeds my expectations in this regard. Line it up and import the scan. the software will identify and segment scans. This alone sped up my process by allowing me to scan album pages and have the software separate the individual photos. For bulk scanning of text and photo albums, this has been a Godsend.Scan quality is also excellent beating my previous brother scanner. While it is not the highest DPI available, it is above many scanners I have looked at in this price range.Overall, I am so happy to have the opportunity to get this scanner. It has drastically improved my process and made it more enjoyable. I would highly recommend the IRIScan for anyone doing bulk scanning, or text based scans.

I've been waiting years for this scanning hardware. The central, vertical scanner is lightweight and can easily be packed for travel. The size and weight of my old flatbed scanner are that of my personal laser printer, clearly not for travel. And my experiments with a hand-held scanner were unsuccessful. The IRIScan Desk Pro is an excellent middle path between the larger flatbed and the small hand-held scanners. The design approach to use a high-resolution camera suspended above the item to be scanned, but not touching it, is an ingenious solution to the problem of turning paper, or any ostensible flat item, into a digital image. Little doubt that in the future, physical copies of information will seldom be used. We will have our phones. In the interim, while we transition to paperless lives, the IRIScan is perhaps inevitable. All that was needed was high-resolution, miniterized cameras and high-powered, ubiquitous personal computers. But the IRIScan not only replaces old scanning technology, it adds new capabilities of projecting scanned information, audio & video, and OCR (Optical Character Recognition). This advancement represents a paradigm shift. As a practical matter, while the IRIScan hardware is a step forward, the supporting software needs to also advance to meet these new capabilities in an elegant fashion. However, the current software needs to significantly improve, at least for macOS, which is the only operating system I tested.I had trouble figuring out how to install this software, and once installed, how to register, activate, and attach it to the hardware. A Quick Start Manual would be useful in streamlining the necessary startup tasks, and could instruct the user how the SW & HW interrelate to each other.Hardware Pros:Provides an innovative, elegant way to scan documents that will satisfy a large segment of users.Provides a stable, fast platform to accomplish the conversion to high-resolution digital images.Allows for easy start of a scan by touching a disc-shaped button that is attached via supplied cable, and also by pushing a floor-located switch—this latter floor switch is handy when the user needs both hands to hold the left and right page margins of a book while scanning.Software Pros:While a bit quirky, the software allows many advanced features such as:Automating scans of books and graphics in color, B&W, and gray scale.Projection of real-time, scanned images.Provides OCR and text-to-speech.HW and SW Cons:Other than the rough initial setup and the awkward-ish software, there are no cons.Highly recommended.

The IRIScan Desk 7 Pro is a feature-rich scanner aimed at users who need high-resolution document and book scanning with advanced capabilities like AI-powered curve flattening, real-time visual presentation, and multi-language OCR. It does all of this very well, but there’s one caveat that buyers should be aware of before purchasing.📦 Setup & LicensingThe scanner arrives with a sticker on the box containing a unique identification number. This number is required to download and activate the companion software. While the process is straightforward, it’s a one-time registration tied to that specific device. This effectively limits resale or transfer to another user. If you decide to sell or gift the scanner later, the new owner will be unable to activate the software without your credentials, reducing the long-term flexibility of the product.🖨️ Functionality & PerformanceThe scanning performance is excellent. The 18MP camera captures crisp details, the lighting system minimizes glare, and the curve-flattening AI works surprisingly well for book digitization. Real-time visualizing is smooth and effective for presentations or teaching, and the OCR engine is robust, supporting 130+ languages with text-to-speech capability.🌐 Integration & Format SupportCloud integration (Dropbox, OneDrive, FTP, email) and multiple output formats (searchable PDF, Office, TIFF, etc.) make this scanner a strong choice for digital workflows. The included Readiris PDF Editor adds extra value.Bottom Line:This is a great tool for anyone serious about document or book scanning, especially educators, archivists, or accessibility professionals. However, potential buyers should know that the software is tied to the device through a one-time registration process—something that can complicate resale or secondhand use.4 stars for performance, versatility, and smart design—1 star held back due to software license restrictions that limit future resale.

Was leider nicht immer so richtig funktioniert.
