These don't really come with instructions but installation wasn't difficult. The hardest part was clearing out enough styrofoam in the kayak to be able to push these all the way through.They don't leak (or at least it's not noticeable in my sit-in kayak) but they can get filled with water pretty easily if you're not careful. Some kayaks with built-in rod holders have a drain back into the water for the holders but these can't.I've got no complaints so far, they work exactly as expected.

Purchased 2 of these in hopes they were built well and WOW!! They look great for the price. The last one I purchased I paid 3 times as much at a big box store. These have a rubber seal for the top and a foam rubber gasket.

These were easy to install and my wife flipped her kayak twice on the river and the poles were still in the holders when it flipped back over.
