This is a very handy tool on the river or at my fly tying bench. The addition of scissors to a hemostat is a nice fishing innovation as long as you remember not to put something you want to clamp back between the blades. Not difficult, but be mindful. I’ve used Kingfisher tools in the past and like those, this is made of nicely finished stainless steel. It clamps securely, and cuts even fine thread or line cleanly. Initially I thought the finish on the scissor’s blade was a bit rough but, on inspection, could see that one blade is serrated. I tested it on a variety of threads down to 8/0 which is the lightest I typically use. It cut well without the thread sliding between the blades. It did seem a bit tight on first use, but a spray of silicone and a bit of usage smoothed it out.Full Disclosure: I acquired this as a Vine user. These are some really nice hemostats! The build quality is awesome, and I can imagine it would be excellent for medical use, though I wouldn't recommend it. It is however the perfect tool for removing small fishing hooks. The clamping action means you get total control of the hook and it won't slip off. They're relatively small and light, while also being very strong and with absolutely no wobble whatsoever in the jaws. The action is very smooth, the black finish is very durable, and they just work beautifully. And as long as you don't abuse them they should last a long time! Overall a great deal!As always if I encounter any issues or think of anything else to add I'll update this review!

This fishing multitool is definitely constructed of quality materials and seemed fairly impressive out of the box, and I liked the assortment of tools. However, I haven't found it be very useful. The "finger holes" are fairly wide apart, which makes things a little cumbersome. The head/end is also fairly wide, so it's not great for finer detail work. I used these (and similar tools) mostly for tying knots, and the way these are designed, the line always gets caught (see attached photo). And while the matte finish is nice, it doesn't allow things to easily slide along them like a pair of polished stainless hemostats does.Is it a good value for the money? That probably depends on what you're going to be using them for. In certain instances (such as if your primary need is simply removing hooks from fish), it might work quite well. But, for fly tying/fishing, I'll stick with traditional hemostats.

I picked these up to use at work as a sort of super compact hemostat. It turns out this is actually much more useful than that. It has micro serrated cutters that cut very well and the serrations keep tubing from “pushing” out of the blades as you close down. It has a flat grip section at the nose that closes flush and tight and a toothed area behind that. It even has a tiny spike behind the hinge (be careful, it will stab you if you are careless) that can be used to clear clogged eyelets and make very tiny holes. There are only two minor cons with these. One is that due to the extreme clamping force and painted locking teeth, it can be hard to release/clamp. However after I lightly sanded the paint down in those areas it’s much better. The other thing is that the handles are not cushioned at all. I thought they were rubber dipped but it’s just blue paint. You could always dip them yourself and they aren’t bad as-is, just could be better.Overall these are well made, easy to use, and are a great value. The small size and strong steel are also pluses for me.

Wow! I am not sure what is going on with the previous one star reviewer?!!?? I work in healthcare and spent 20+ years in the operating room using various hemostats. Don't tell my employers but I do have a collection for fishing. Most of the hemostats that I use in the operating room are high quality German made stainless steel instruments... I am sure they aren't cheap. This style of hemostat that has both cutting and gripping functions are hard to come by so I ordered this item. I will tell you that these are not quite the quality I have used in the operating room, but they are superb for fishing. When I got these, I admit they were very tight and hard to open and close. A little oil and a few hundred opening and closing fixed that issue. These are painted/coated with black and blue coatings which may wear and the blue paint keeps the ratcheting mechanism from clicking destinctifmcally like I am used to with high quality instruments, however, I am sure this will improve as they wear. I also noticed that there is a sharp point on the inside of the hemostats that can be used to poke open holes in fishing lures occluded with paint, this is a nice feature. As far as the reviewer commenting on the fact that they are too wide has never used a hemostat before. These are standard and work great! One thing I am somewhat naive about is what the small wedge like projection from one of the finger holes is for? Overall, these are a great set of hemostats for the price and for fishing... It is a real luxury to have hemostats that can both cut and grip. FISH ON FOLKS!!!

Almost impossible to open with one hand. Wide handle make it hard to grip. Looks nicely made but it is terrible to use. Would not buy again. Made in China.
