The thickness of the walls are probably triple the thickness of my On-Stage stands. This results in a much heavier weight stand, which I prefer. The push-button mechanism is much easier to use than sticking a pin in a hole for redundant security, but you should hold the button in, if you don't want it to scratch the pole while adjusting its height, which makes you wish you had a third hand - so it's give and take, but I still prefer it this way. It's a very nice stand, and I trust it'll outlast me. Feel very confident putting my expensive, heavy tops up there. The plastic tip is angled in a way that supposedly helps slap a speaker on the pole, but I've never had a problem without this "feature" so that's neutral in my opinion, but it looks cool (although you don't see it with a speaker mounted). It came with very cheap and thin plastic sleeves to adapt for the larger 1.5" / 38mm cups. K&M is the best, and these are their middle of the line models. Their top-tier models are VERY expensive, so I'm more than satisfied with these.
