So I had a dead laser in my xbox 360 slim. Wouldn't read discs, would give me a message that the disc was unreadable and to clean it. I replaced it with this laser and now it will read discs if I load the game and try repeatedly. Sometimes it will load first try, other times it will take 4 or 5 attempts to play the disc. DVD movies seem to work first try though. So it works, but it's not perfect. For 12 bucks I guess I can't complain. People say to remove the solder blob on the laser, so I desoldered it with solder wick. Maybe a different laser would work better.

As another reviewer said, you need to remove the solder ball to the side of the ribbon connector that bridges 3 pads. After that and installing, mine worked great. Also the potentiometers were already set correctly for me out of the box.

It's not disclosed but you will need to remove a solder blob next to where the ribbon cable connects. It's there to protect the laser diode circuitry from ESD. Once you un bridge the 3 connected points, the laser will turn on. (Located on the top left of the connector)

I bought this to replace my Xbox 360 slim disc drive and it didn't work, my Xbox still doesn't read discs.
