Two safety stops are located on the bottom of the foot, which prevents accidental lens release when a quick release receiver clamp is partially open.

I knew it was for a lens but needed something like this for a light I wanted on a tripod and will work just fine for that as soon as I get my 1/4 inch stud to put them together. What I can tell you it is very well made and I have no doubts that it can hold a huge weight with ease. I just really needed that fast removal and replacement in my ball heads on my tripods and this one does the trick. I hope this helps all.
