The plastic socket that joins the mirror to the ball joint is far too loose, and it is this way straight from the factory. This prevents the mirror from staying in a fixed position. There is no easy way to adjust this, and this ultimately makes the mirror useless. I have three of these models and they are all the same.An older Mag-Mate model with an adjustable screw pivot worked better as you can tighten the joint to prevent the mirror from falling. This model is not worth the premium price.

I was disappointed because the ball joint was not tight enough to keep the mirror from moving under it's weight. Friction between the brass ball and the thermoplastic socket was too low to maintain stability. I solved the problem by rubbing the polished surface of the brass ball with scotch brite to increase roughness. Now it holds tight and performs as it should.

Purchased this mirror against my better judgement. Most mirrors with a cylindrical telescoping extension have this problem. When holding the mirror at certain angles the mirror flops down under gravity. The solution to this is to use a telescoping extension with a different geometry such as the octagonal shape you see sometimes. Disgarded. My search continues.
