Faux Suede Fabric Upholstery
Faux suede is a fabric finished to resemble sueded leather. It has a short nap and a soft finish meant to resemble real suede. It is available in a wide range of weights and compositions, with or without surface texture or embellishments, and in variety of colors.
Tips & Tricks
Sew as leather, using clips instead of pins, and polyester thread.
Needle marks will show. Use a jeans needle in size 75 or 70 for best fabric penetration. For faux suede with stretch, use a stretch needle in the appropriate size.
To soften faux suede, machine wash in warm water and dry on delicate. Repeat several times.
Tennis balls in the dryer help to soften the fabric without damaging it.
Faux suede is a napped fabric. Lay out and cut faux suede according to the "with nap" guidelines.
Use a press cloth on top of the fabric when pressing; place a terrycloth towel or needle board under the fabric and steam or press seams face down to avoid shiny or flattened areas.

Nice fabric, pretty color, but has zero stretch as mentioned in the description. Just a head's up to anyone who needs a somewhat stretchy fabric.

This fabric is exactly what I wanted to re-upholster an ottoman. There is no stretch to the material and it does have some severe wrinkles in it that I hope I will be able to get out with an iron. Fabric has a nice suede feel. Overall, quite satisfied.

This is a nice soft suede feel fabric. Beware that this comes in precut 1 yard packages. If you order multiple yards, it will not come as one large continual piece of fabric. I was disappointed by this but I'll make it work.

After watching the Halston biography series, I really wanted to make some clothing pieces of ultrasuede but could not find any yardage in my price range, given I am just an amateur sewer. I had a bad experience with a similar looking fabric from another seller - it looked and felt cheap, and bled color badly when wet. This fabric was much better.This fabric looks and feels almost like high quality ultrasuede at a fraction of the price. It has a front and a back side, unlike real suede. Unlike real suede, it can fray so I cut it with pinking shears and serged the borders. It was very easy to sew with, and I had minimal problems with the fabric fraying. I tested the fabric for colorfastness by running hot water over it. The water initially shed off the fabric quite well, which I wasn’t really expecting and this pleased me although this isn’t water-repellent fabric. Then I scrunched the fabric in hot water to saturate it and left it overnight on a piece of white fabric to test it for colorfastness. It did not bleed at all on the underlying white fabric. Still, I would recommend washing it delicately in cold water if it must be washed.

It is not exactly what I was looking for but it will work. It has a nice lining and looks pretty. I am a handbag maker.
