The main thing that bummed me out about this product was that I expected I would be able to see the Joy-Con LED while either Joy-Con was attached to this product. That may have been true of older models, but no, there actually wasn’t any LED lens that kept these indicator lights visible. I suppose this is one of the requirements of an official Nintendo Switch accessory, because I’ve never seen a single official accessory that doesn’t maintain visibility to the Joy-Con LEDs.But that aside, who is this product for?Form wise, it’s built with the retro gamer in mind. I bought it thinking it might be nice for the Fitness Boxing series, and it is, but it’s just not what it was made for. After I received the product, it seemed very obvious that this was intended to turn a single Joy-Con into a half decent fully functional controller for Famicom/NES/GB/GBA games. The ergonomics are the biggest giveaway on this design choice. Why I thought it was would be nice for the Fitness Boxing series? Each grip in this pair had its own individual USB C charging port. Not a feature to be overlooked— I like that, I just kind of wish it had the brass knuckles look integrated into it too. I’ll get over it though. Individual charging ports means I don’t need to remove the joy-cons to rejuice the batteries. I would however recommend a male USB-A cable with two male USB-C cables ends on the other side. Makes it easier to charge both via one port. Still wish the current models still showed LED indicators… not easy to tell what joy con is powered on without removing it from the grip first.Even if it doesn’t totally fit my needs with the LED indicators, note that the ergonomics are great for NES/SNES/GBA. Easily turns one set of joycons into two controllers for that retro purpose. Just know you probably won’t be able to see the LED indicators.

These fit better than the original grips, and the charger is very convenient, but what happened to the status lights? You can see them in previous models on other sites. I recommend buying elsewhere until they add these back.

Not very comftorabale to hold (and odd big shape), and also don't show the status lights of what Switch controller ID it is, so it makes it hard to know ID of controller. Good idea, missing key elemetnts, and bad design.

This is a useful attachment for the joy con. I like being able to charge it without needing to connect to the switch. The side bumpers are easier to press than the standard nintendo bumper-sleeve that you can slide on.

I'm not a huge fan of the official Nintendo slide-on Joycon attachments that come bundled with the Switch, as I find them barely comfortable enough to use and far too tight to repeatedly attach and detach (which you have to do every time you want to charge the Joycons). The DOBE mini charging grips rectify those issues. They're very easy to slide on and slide off (perhaps a bit too easy -- if you don't hold the controller tightly for motion-based games like Just Dance, the Joycon can become detached even without pressure on the release button) and they offer pass-through USB-C Joycon charging. The rounded grips on the back and larger L/R buttons also make for an upgrade from the ergonomics of the official attachments, but only slightly. Then again, if you got one of the bulky grips with handles for horizontal usage, you'd have to take it off to use the Joycon in vertical mode. With the DOBE grip, you can use the Joycon in either orientation reasonably well. All in all, the DOBE mini charging grips may not be the best grips for every situation, but the versatility they offer makes them a pretty good fit for me.
