This Muffler tape saved me from a $1250 exhaust replacement. It won't last forever but certainly a good temporary repair. Highly recommend

I have a 50cc scooter that had a crack in the tailpipe. I considered buying a new tailpipe until I found this stuff. The hardest part of using this tape is pulling off the plastic backing before installation. I had this repair made in less than 5 minutes. The instructions say to use wire to keep it in place until it gets hard enough from heat to set up. I used zip ties and it worked great. I'm glad I found this stuff as it saved me a lot of money.

Works well but remember to peel any red backing off. The material is white.

I figured that a Permatex product would be a slam dunk. Not for me this time. First, the instructions direct you to "peel the backing off the bandage" REALLY??? That took close to 15 minutes of picking at the product to get it apart. There isn't any clearly defined starting edge or slit to help. Then the stuff didn't bond well to the exhaust pipe, It got baked and rigid, but didn't bond very well. Never again for me.

Not completely solve exhaust pipe, but works quite well.

Worked great, I used it along with the cement (Permatex 80335) by cutting an aluminum can to size of the 2" hole in the pipe. Just applied the cement product to the can, placed over hole, wrapped with wire until cured a bit, then wrapped with the tape and more wire. If you ensure you have the red cellophane protective off BOTH sides of this and properly clean the application location with a degreaser (brake cleaner) first it works great. It's very sticky when applying, so it's a bit messy to work with, but if you are attempting this that shouldn't matter because you know what you are in for in that respect. I have no doubt the repaired section will be the strongest part of the pipe. Good stuff, saved me buying a new exhaust for just a hole. Took maybe an hour to fix including prep time along with the cement.

I bought a few of these bandages to patch a hole in my 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander 4cyl exhaust system which was otherwise in great shape. The biggest problem with these is the way you have to peel off the RED coating on BOTH sides of the bandage, not just one. Getting it started is very, very hard, though I did discover a trick to help...you take a lighter or torch and light one of the corners until the red coating shrivels up (on BOTH sides), then it's simple to peel both sides back. If you just try and pick at it, it'll take you an hour per bandage...very frustrating. However, the clear epoxy bandage under the red coatings is heat resistant, whereas the red coatings are not, hence this little trick to get it started. The bandage works great after that, and it seems to be working well!

The tape is amazing if you know how to use it. The tape itself is clear, but it is sandwiched in between 2 waxey pink removable peel-off skins. It takes a bit of work to peel the pink sheeting away from the tape, but once you get a corner loose, it comes right off. The directions say to wrap the tape all the way around the muffle. This isnt necessary. My muffler only had a split along the bottom. Wrappping the entire muffler would have been a good waste of tape. So, once the muffler was cleaned (wire brush and power sander) I just stuck sections of tape about 7" long over the crack. I overlapped the tape about 3/4". I did this the entire length of the muffle with 15" of tape left over (i bought 3 packages). I then used the extra to run a strip lengthwise down the muffler over the existing tape. After running the car for a few minutes, the muffler heats up and the tape seems to melt right into it and turns pretty clear. Job done.
